Fixed term one year contract (to be reviewed after 12 months)

Here at Mears Group our vision is to make a positive difference to the communities we serve.

We do this by improving homes, improving communities and improving lives and our approach is based on the development of outstanding partnerships with employees, clients, tenants, customers, their families and the wider community.

Mears Housing Management is a fast growing business within the Group, currently managing in excess of 11,000 units across the whole of the UK. The primary business objective is to develop new housing supply along with contracted management services to central and local Government as well as to Registered Providers of social housing for four key markets: Homelessness, Accommodation for Care, Affordable and Market Rented.

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a Community Development Officer to join MHM on a fixed term contract for one year.

Within this role, you will work in partnership with community groups, residents and other stakeholders across a temporary accommodation portfolio of approximately 300 properties in the Custom House, E16 area.  You will provide a range of services and activities with a view to ensuring that accommodation is decent and not in disrepair, that residents are safe-guarded and receive housing, health, employment and welfare benefits advice to maximise their income and to improve their quality of life.

You will also take an active role in looking to support children in our managed blocks by helping set up/sign post to homework clubs; providing quiet space for study and access to printers etc as well as the accessing of grants/funds.  You may also be required to work at our other managed residential blocks.

In order to be successful in this role, it is essential that you have a track record of delivering excellent community development services which improve accommodation, amenities and the environment, sustain tenancies, are compliant with regulation and meet residents needs.

With experience of delivering high quality community development and resident engagement services, you will also have experience of working in partnership with community groups, residents and support agencies.

It is also essential that you have experience of dealing with property disrepair coupled with experience of holding meetings with community groups and residents.

You should also hold a clean full driving licence and will be willing to undertake a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
