35 hours per week (with occasional weekend work)


Our client is looking for a Database and IT Administrator who will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of their systems.

In addition, they will also be involved in the planning, development and training of current systems, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users.

Position Summary
As Database Administrator, you will provide system support for other applications and MS Office products across the organisation, along with the ordering and installation of hardware. Other key responsibilities to include:

• Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security as well as controlling access permissions and privileges
• Monitoring performance (Hardware/Software/Connections) and managing responses to front-end users
• Considering both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users and ensuring data remains consistent across databases
• Ensure there is provision for data security and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency) along with managing and testing back-up and recovery plans
• Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
• Installing and testing new versions of systems, packages and operating systems
• Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
• Communicating with suppliers to ensure database security
• Commissioning and installing new applications and customising existing applications

Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will be educated to Degree level (or equivalent) or have excellent all-round IT skills and experience. They should also have:

• Experience in MS Office and Windows 8 and 10
• Communication, teamwork and negotiation skills
• An understanding of information legislation, such as the Data Protection Act;
• Good problem solving and analytical skills
• Flexible, highly organised and able to work to deadlines under pressure
• Able to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customers

Desirable skills

• Familiarity of the principles of database design
• Business awareness and understanding of business requirements of IT
• Sage report writing
• SQL knowledge
