Role Purpose
This highly dynamic and strategic role will be responsible for developing and leading Global Operations' data strategy to maximise the value and accuracy of data across the function and within the bank more broadly. This role will be responsible for the definition, build out and execution of the Global Operations data strategy and data quality management capability. This role will lead a global team and collaborate across the bank to deliver Data Design, Data Governance, Data Quality Management, Data Remediation Management & Control, and Data Analytics. This role will report into the Head of Business Performance & Planning Analytics and work with Global Operations Business Services and Regional Heads, along with the lines of business and functions across the bank. This role will provide review and challenge based on analytical insights and findings.

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business
Define and develop the Global Operations Data Vision and Data Strategy in conjunction with and to enable the Global Operations Core Performance Metrics and Executive Dashboard development effort Develop the approach and plan to build out and fully implement, by 2017, the Global Operations Data Vision and Data Strategy Provide thought-leadership in the innovative and effective use of data across Global Operations including Data Analytics, Data Design, Data Governance, Remediation & Issues Management Embed a commercially-focussed Global Operations Data Governance and Control Process Develop and implement a Front-to-Back Global Operations Data Quality Framework Lead the innovative use of Big Data and Data Analytics to enable automation, innovation, reduce costs, identify and exploit revenue opportunities, and enhance business decision-making

Customers / Stakeholders
Deliver the responsibilities for this role as part of the office of the Global Operations COO and the Head of Business Performance & Planning Analytics Support the Heads of Business Services and Regions and their Business Planning and Administrative Offices to produce effective Data Strategy and Data Quality outputs that enable root cause analysis and business decision-making more effectively for Business Service and Regional performance Maintain excellent relationship, collaboration and coordination with Global lines of business and other functions to build and maintain this capability

Leadership & Teamwork
Provide leadership and oversight to critical Global Operations data related initiatives Develop, build out, and supervise a team to deliver high quality, accurate and efficient work products, deliverables, and outputs Responsible for the coaching and development of individual team members

Operational Effectiveness & Control
Define Data Strategy and Data Quality approach for Global Operations, ensuring its implementation across Business Services and Regions Reduce complexity of information flows across Global Operations to enable innovation and reduce costs and operational risk Ensure the Global Operations Data Strategy and Data Quality approach is in compliance with Group Data Policies and Standards (Data FIM), as well as global regulatory standards (e.g., BCBS 239) Implement effective Data Governance across Global Operations, including consistent data models and target operating model for data governance and management Manage and control data rememdation activities to ensure global consistency and coordination Own, develop and refresh procedures, tools, reporting and governance models related to financial and headcount planning on an ongoing basis in line with bank policy Represent Global Operations on key data related matters and inquiries as directed by Head of Business Performance & Planning Analytics or Global Operations COO.

Major Challenges
The Complexity of the data environment in Global Operations and the bank due to the way it has evolved over many years will require significant application of both big picture and detailed understanding to ensure continual improvement with business benefit. The role requires collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders as well as the production of high quality reports and analysis for senior management regardless of time constraints. The jobholder will be required to communicate effectively and develop strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders across all levels of seniority The need to influence the overall Global Operations architecture across all Business Services and Regions even though there is not direct line management responsibilities Flexibility and adaptability - constantly changing priorities and tasks that are potentially highly restricted, wide ranging, complex and time critical.

Role Dimensions
The role holder will be responsible for managing the Central Data Strategy and Requirements for Global Operations providing a central point of contact for Global Operations Business Services and Regions' critical data governance needs.
Data Strategy
Work with the Head of Business Performance and Analytics to identify 'key data' required to run the business and identification of data issues inhibiting the business strategy Develop the Global Operations Data Strategy and Vision Develop, drive and monitor the roadmap to execute the Data Strategy and Vision with both tactical & strategic initiatives Sponsor and lead projects to ensure execution of the strategy and compliance to standards
Data Analytics Programme
Build out or leverage, where applicable, a dedicated Global Operations Data Analytics function Manage the effective implementation and use of the Data Analytics function by all stakeholders in Global Operations
Data Quality
Develop a Data Quality improvement program to evidence sustainable short-term business benefits Expand the Data Quality program to understand and measure the Front-to-Back quality of key data for the business Implement consistent and coordinated global Data Remediation Management and Control processes Define Global Operations Data Architecture and "Approved Sources" inventory
Data Governance
Develop the Global Operations Data Governance process, its execution and ongoing improvements, including appropriate staffing Lead the implementation of business-level data policies, standards and frameworks Develop information standards, methodologies, guidelines & techniques Manage execution of the overall data management program as the Executive Sponsor Responsible for the compliance and execution of the data governance programme policies, processes and procedures Champion the development of data agreements across businesses and global functions when data crosses business lines
Relationship Management
Build and maintain relationships across all Global Operations Business Services and Regions to understand current and future information and data needs and strategy Build and maintain relationships with other architects and understand future strategy Develop working relationships with business services teams to facilitate the adoption of standard methods and tools Collaborate across businesses and global functions to solve common data problems
Data Practice / Mentorship
Sponsors training, skills development and other aspects of cultural change at the senior most level Mentor, train and develop staff and project / business personnel on the organisation's data vision

Role Context

• Global Operations has circa 50,000 employees working in all key countries as well as 11 Group Service Centres.

• Given the global nature of the role the job holder will have to work with a virtual team and be cognisant of working in different time zones, requiring occasional travel.

• The role holder will be required to interact with many parties at the highest level of management and therefore needs an outstanding level of professionalism and gravitas.

Management of Risk

• The role holder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.

• This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring and/or by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.

Observation of Internal Controls

• The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

• The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term 'compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

• This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

• Demonstrable experience of leadership for a data and analytics at a large financial services institution
