A fantastic opportunity is available for a Charitable Activities Coordinator to join Yorkshire Agricultural Society at their Regional Agricultural Centre, Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate HG2 8NZ.

Reporting to the Charitable Activities Manager, you will coordinate and deliver the Society’s charitable activities.  Working with farmers, teachers, educators and businesses alike to provide the best possible food and farming learning experience for children and adults and supporting the wider farming industry.

As a Charitable Activities Coordinator, your principal duties will include:

  • Responsibility for the development and delivery of projects and events, as part of the charitable remit of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
  • Organising events, meetings and courses, from leaflet design, promotion and registration of attendees to post-event evaluation.
  •  liaising with colleagues from across the business to deliver events, meetings and courses.
  • liaising with and forming relationships with schools, farmers and public sector organisations with a view to the developing the Society’s charitable activities.  
  • Representing the Society at meetings and conferences where appropriate.
  • Managing budgets and project outputs and reporting regularly to the Charitable Activities Manager.
  • Promoting and managing school visits to the Great Yorkshire Show.
  • Working with other organisations and develop partnerships to promote farming and the countryside.
  • Developing new ideas to enhance the charitable activities of the Society.
  • Providing regular written and verbal progress reports.
  • Seeking funding for projects in partnership with other organisations.
  • Liaising with the Society PR Manager to promote our charitable activities.
  • Using social media to promote events and activities.
  • Managing the operational delivery of education events.

As a Charitable Activities Coordinator, you will possess the following skills and experiences:

  • A real passion and knowledge of food, farming and the countryside.
  • Familiarity with education and the national curriculum with an ability to discuss learning objectives and learning resources with teaching staff
  • Experience of successfully delivering projects involving education or farming.
  • Knowledge and experience of the farming community with your own farming network.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, well-organised and creative.
  • Good knowledge of IT, Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Spreadsheets and ability to use IT efficiently.
  • Ability to use Facebook and Twitter to promote events and key Society messages.
  • Excellent communication skills, whether writing newsletters and social media posts or presenting to children, teachers or farmers.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of tasks and prioritise workload.
  • Good organisational skills, to run events, meetings, teachers’ courses etc including working to a budget.

Working hours:

On average over the year the hours will be 31.5 hours per week, worked in the following pattern:

  • 35 hours per week term time – 39 weeks
  • 21 hours per week school holidays – 13 weeks

Some flexibility will be required to fit with operational requirements such as starting at 8.30am when courses are running and additional hours would be required for events such as Springtime Live, Countryside Days, Countryside Live and Great Yorkshire Show.
