The RAF relies heavily on defence intelligence to support operations in both peace and war time. Intelligence Analysts use state-of-the-art technologies to collect and interpret information. They provide vital intelligence to support military forces deployed around the world.

Typical Responsibilities:

• Collect, collate and evaluate intelligence from multiple sources.
• Monitor and analyse radio and electronic transmissions broadcast throughout the world.
• Analyse and interpret aerial or satellite imagery using high tech systems.
• Disseminate tailored Intelligence to commanders, aircrew or troops on the ground.

IN THE RAF MY ROLE

‘I analyse routine radar emissions – the signals that are sent out by radar around the world. The kit we use is really high-tech so you can tell a lot about the signals and we watch out for anything unexpected.

Much of the work we do is very sensitive, so you have to be very careful in this job. We learn to use all kinds of advanced computer equipment during training, which counts towards the Adv Apprenticeship In Intelligence Analysis’

MY DAY

‘The pressure can increase very quickly in a short space of time. As an Intelligence Analyst, it’s my job to find out about threats before they become a danger so I can help prevent wars and people dying.'
