Applications Engineer

An opening has arisen for a technical applications engineer in the rack integration technical services team, supporting the sales organisation in winning rack integration business. The role provides training and development opportunities to gain further technical breadth and depth to raise up the technical ladders. The role can also offer career progression opportunities into Product Management, Business Development or Sales. The role is ideal for a technical person who also enjoys the interaction with sales and customers and getting involved in commercial aspects of winning business.The successful candidate will have a good baseline technical background with a desire to learn and develop further. We are not expecting the finished article as this is a development role. The ideal candidate will have some prior experience in technically specifying, configuring or supporting the sales of 19" rack related products either from their involvement with component sets or integrated systems. Ideally they will have a baseline understanding of 19" Rack architectures, including awareness of mechanical structures, cable management, power distribution, environmental management and general IT & Comms payloads, such as switches, KVMs, UPS's etc???We are an ambitious company with an aggressive growth plan to meet our milestone for an IPO. This is an important role in order to support the company's sales focus on driving and growing our existing rack integration business.The successful candidate will need to be a robust individual who is eager to take on new challenges and enjoys a dynamic work environment. They will need to be able to communicate and deliver a persuasive technical proposition to the proposed solutions specific to the needs of individual customers. Whilst this need not be a polished skill, it will be required in time by training and practice.The role will also require the candidate to interface with multiple stakeholder teams to win rack integration opportunities. These will typically involve the purchasing team responsible for the procurement of the materials required, the production team for the integration of the rack, and all other associated services.Essential Experience: Experience working in a technical sales support role with a minimum of 3+ years track record.Experience in working with rack related technologies.Experience in the preparation of technical content for quotations and proposals.Experience in defining, pricing and managing complex BOMs.Technical skills centered around computing/IT technologies.Educational grounding in technical/STEM subjects to minimum of college level.Qualified by experience with a minimum of 3+ years applied.Desirable Experience: Experience in a similar role and of markets that typically require engineering services.Experience working to KPI's and targets.Sector experience in multiple verticals including any of: Medical, Transport, Automation, Energy, Communications, Defence or similar.Experience in working in a professional and structured methodology aligned to the ISO: 9001 standard.Good understanding of rack integration principles, and the complexities of integrating IT functional units into more complex integrated rack solutions.Good understanding of computing, IT and electronics.Degree level education in a computing/IT or technical discipline.Essential Attributes: Professional appearance and behaviour.Self-motivated and able to multi-task handling multiple priorities.Able to learn new skills quickly and apply them/improve them consistently.Lifelong learner, practitioner and teacher to others of new skills.Organised, tidy with good time management.Able to handle pressure to meet deadlines.Flexible, adaptable and accepting of change.Positive and enthusiastic.Team player with entrepreneurial spirit.Setter and driver of high standards.
