Family Support Worker

The post holder is accountable to the Practice Manager and Deputy Chief Executive for all aspects of their work.

The Job Description is a picture of the responsibilities and duties (in no particular order or priority) required to be carried out by an individual in order to fulfil the requirements of the post.

JOB PURPOSE:-

To support adoptive parents and children through various means.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:-

  • To provide crisis or ongoing support to adoptive parents - by phone, in person or in a group setting.
  • To participate in providing training for adoptive parents including parenting skills support, transition work
  • To provide a range of activities for adopted children, and those placed for adoption, and to develop social opportunities for adoptive families to get together and form informal networks.
  • To prepare Life Story Books for children, and where appropriate, involvement in direct work with children to enhance their understanding of their history
  • To be a source of information on access to welfare benefits for adoptive families, e.g. DLA or Pupil Premium.
  • To act as a mentor for children, especially where they are experiencing difficulties within their adoptive family, in school etc.
  • To undertake advocacy/mediation work with teenage adopted children and their adoptive families.
  • To work with schools to ensure that children's educational, emotional and social needs are recognised and met.
  • To ensure that any Child Protection concerns are dealt with in accordance with the Charity's Child Protection Policy and Procedures.
  • To work alongside Adult Adoption Counsellors in preparing file summaries from archived files.

  GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES:-

  • To adhere to at all times the objectives of the Charity's mission statement and ethos.
  • To provide services in accordance with the Charity's policies and team objectives to the benefit of all stakeholders (i.e. service users, children, prospective adopters, adoptive parents, customers, suppliers, staff, volunteers etc.), using personal skills, experience and knowledge.
  • To identify and respond to the needs of the Charity's stakeholders, working in a flexible manner to meet the needs of the service.
  • To provide professional expertise in order to maintain and improve the efficiency and the quality of service of the Charity.
  • To work in an anti-discriminatory manner in all aspects of the post on behalf of the Charity and to understand and comply with the Charity's Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times in line with the Charity's Confidentiality Policies and Procedures, and adhering to confidentiality and data protection legislation.
  • To comply at all times with the Charity's Safeguarding and Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • To undertake any other related duties as may be required by the Charity.
