Independent Supporter, Leicester LE1

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and
Support Service (SENDIASS)

2 Vacancies, one full time (35 hours) and one part-time (17.5 hours)

Pay: £19,772 per annum (pro rata)

Both posts will be fixed term until the end of March 2018 and will work across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of Independent Supporters working with families across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The role involves providing independent, impartial information and support to parents/carers, children and young people who are going through the statutory Education, Health and Care (EHC) Assessment and Planning process. It will also include supporting parents/carers, children and young people during the transfer review processes.

Managing a caseload, Independent Supporters are trained to provide positive, responsive and flexible support to families and young people going through the EHC process, through telephone support and face to face meetings.

Applicants will need to demonstrate excellent organisation and administration skills, as well as the ability to work and communicate with children and young people, parents/carers, schools, local authorities and partner agencies. The role requires a proactive, highly motivated individual, able to work as part of a team. Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to effectively manage their time and work load.

Knowledge or experience of special educational needs and disability is an advantage but full training and a comprehensive induction will be provided.

This role requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check and is based at Voluntary Action LeicesterShire (VAL) within the Special Educational Needs Information Advice and Support Services Team.
