Senior Financial Accountant - High Wycombe

Job Purpose

A key role within the Financial Accounts department, reporting to the Head of Financial Accounts and overseeing one Financial Accountant. Direct and indirect responsibility for monthly Management and Financial Accounting support for the Municipal division and a key contributor to the statutory accounts process. Uses excellent MS Excel and technical accounting knowledge to clearly define business processes and communicate them to ensure compliance across the wider business.

Principal Accountabilities

1 Monthly review preparation and consolidation of Microsoft Dynamics- Navision reporting including P&L, BS, Fixed Assets, debtors cash and provisions.

2 Provide central control for the Navision accounting parameters.

3 Provide accounting advice / support to Sevenoaks and Redcar offices and provide a monthly analytical review of material balances.

4 Provide support, direction and review of work produced by Financial Accountant to ensure delivery of their key tasks - bad debts, landfill tax, Biffa Award and PSA calculations in a timely and accurate manner.

5 Management and reporting of the group property dilapidations calculations, including projected cash flows and liaison with the group property manager.

6 Play a key role in the preparation of Statutory Accounts including liaising with the auditors and tax team.

7 Account for pensions and corporation tax balances.

8 Account for the group`s captive insurance company.

9 Maintain and prepare the group intercompany matrix. Implement efficient processes for a timely and accurate monthly reconciliation to allow accurate completion of both group and statutory accounts to the auditors.

10 Other ad hoc duties as required.

Nature and Scope

- The typical planning horizons and timescales focus around monthly and quarterly reporting with increased focus of activity around year-end and statutory accounts submission timeframes.

- Ability to work with large volumes of data ensuring compliance and accuracy at a detailed level while still being able to provide analytical review and insight at a higher level is key.

- A solid understanding of accounting standards is imperative, along with the ability to guide, support and review the work of others colleagues.

- This role would be suitable for a qualified accountant, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, however, a finalist would be considered with the relevant experience.

- This role requires good teamwork and communication with all members of the Financial and Management Accounts team and the wider business, workloads can be self-scheduled on a daily basis as long as key deliverables set out above are achieved.

- The main constraints are to ensure all areas of the business follow correct procedures and are compliant with accounting standards and Biffa`s internal accounting policies.

- The role has one direct report - Financial Accountant.

- The role has varied complexities from people and process challenges through to technical accounting decisions.

- This role requires interfaces and business partnering with a number of different internal departments at a detailed level and requires the ability to work with both financial and non-financial colleagues at various levels of seniority within the Biffa group:-

o Financial Accounts

o Management Accounts - Cressex, Sevenoaks, Redcar

o Tax & Treasury

o Procurement

o Property

o Payroll.

The role also requires a good working relationship with our pension advisors.

Education / Qualifications

- Recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) however, a finalist would be considered with the relevant experience.

Experience

- Relevant prior experience of statutory accounts and IFRS is essential.

- Good staff management and development skills.

Technical Knowledge

- Good knowledge of IFRS

- Highly competent in Microsoft excel and proficient with reporting and analytical tools.

- Analytical capability to interpret data trends into business impacts.

- Navision experience would be an advantage.
