Enigma People Solutions is delighted to recruit a Photonics Engineer for our world leading R&D Design client based in Edinburgh. Part of the wider Imaging Division of this international company this team designs and develops precision opto-mechanical assemblies incorporating silicon sensors to produce state-of-the-art high performance SPAD-based Time of Flight ranging modules. Key skills and experience required: • Physics background (Masters or PhD in Physics or Physics related discipline) with emphasis on optics, opto-electronics or semiconductors • Knowledge of semiconductor lasers design and manufacturing, preferably VCSEL • Experience of semi-conductor processes, ideally II-VI or III-V materials • Familiar with epitaxial growth for semiconductor lasers • Direct involvement in high volume manufacturing (or technical coordination of activities), industrialisation, new product introduction • Management of suppliers - track record of managing development and industrialisation of new components at subcontract manufacturers • Practical measurement and characterisation of electro-optical or optical systems Your role will include but not be limited to: Fulfilling the role of VCSEL expert within the Imaging Division, you will provide concise summaries to Divisional Management and other engineers. You will need to be confident in communicating with end customer on technical aspects relating to VCSEL components or optical integration. You will be required to adapt to rapidly changing priorities, thrive on technical challenges within and outside the core area of expertise. There will also be a need to travel internationally several times per year to support customer and supplier visits. Assisting the Technical Sourcing team in the assessment and selection of VCSEL and other optical component manufacturing partners, evaluating their technology and determining their process capability for manufacturing and its suitability for ToF module designs. Definition of realistic target specifications for optical components such as VCELS for new products, working closely across multi-disciplinary teams from silicon architecture, sensor design, systems engineering and applications. Close cooperation and management of suppliers during design and industrialisation phases on all technical issues. Responsible for generating and maintaining the roadmap for VCSEL requirements and technical developments.
