Our Client

Our Client aims to accelerate the development of fusion energy by combining two emerging technologies - spherical tokamaks and high-temperature superconductors.

The company was originally established in 2009 to design and develop small Spherical Tokamaks and compact fusion reactors for a range of applications. Since then, the strategy has evolved to prioritise building a pilot plant to exceed fusion energy breakeven.

Person and Job Specification

Our Client is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work in a small design team. The role requires the design of mechanical structures typically involved in ultra-high vacuum vessels, magnet coil design and structural support systems. The role requires a self-sufficient engineer who can design from first principles where required. There is a requirement to use Ansys software to provide backing to mechanical design in high load structures. A good understanding of design for manufacture with a manufacturing background is preferred.

Duties will include

  • Use of FEA ANSYS software
  • Design of structural support systems
  • Design of jigs and fixtures
  • Developing and writing assembly procedures
  • Specifying material requirements
  • Liaising with suppliers
  • Maintaining data base records of designs and calculations
  • Liaising with drawing office and other engineers
