Due to continuing business success and growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join Viridor, as an Assistant Shift Team Leader in Dunbar.


What will I be responsible for?

Joining our team as an Assistant Shift Team Leader you will be responsible for:
  • Supervising the shift teams ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of the Dunbar ERF plant, prioritising workloads to ensure maximum process efficiency
  • Maximise waste input and energy output.
  • Organise shift cover when required, ensuring shift complement is maintained.
  • Carry out return to work discussions with team member returning from absences.
  • Ensure that all activities within the Dunbar ERF plant are carried out in a safe manner in line with Dunbar ERF policies ensuring that all Health, Safety and Environmental statutory requirements are met.
  • Manage the Dunbar ERF Safe System of Work as an Authorised Person (AP).
  • Carry out risk assessments to ensure activities are carried out in a safe manner
  • Working with the management team striving for continual improvement in minimising Health, safety and environmental impacts at the Dunbar ERF plant.
  • Ensure all visitors and contractors to site are inducted in the site safety and emergency procedures. 
  • Routine testing of site emergency safety and environmental procedures and recording information as required.
  • Completion of any incident reporting and carrying out follow-up investigations as necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring the Dunbar ERF plant is being operated within the IPPC permit at all times.

Who are we looking for?


As the ideal Assistant Shift Team Leader, you will have experience within a similar role and the following skills:

  • Knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems
  • A good understand of environmental health & safety within a process or power industry
  • Excellent communicational skills are required at all levels; both verbally and written. Ability to carry out team briefings, participate in detailed shift handovers and write concise reports
  • Process or Power Plant experience
  • Experience in safe systems of work, issuing Permits to Work / safety documentation and systems
  • Engineering qualifications, preferably ONC / HNC (or equivalent)
  • Safety qualification, preferably IOSH or NEBOSH
