Deputy Plant Area Supervisor - Part time, including an alternate weekend day each week.

St Bridget Nurseries, currently have an opportunity for a Plant Area Supervisor.

The role is working under the plant area supervisor you will help lead a team of up seven plant area sales assistants. Often referred to as an oasis in the city, St Bridget Nurseries covers over 30 acres in total growing over 90% of the plants it sells.

Whilst this role does not involve the propagation of plants, you will see and work alongside the nursery team in delivering top quality plants to customers.

Duties:

The Deputy Plant Area Supervisor is a team member whose tasks will include:

- Proactive selling of all products (including dry goods) to customers working to targets
- Providing sound horticultural advice to customers

- Ensuring the plant team offer excellent customer service at all times, leading by example
- Ensuring excellent plant hygiene at all times in the plant area and around the garden centres to include pest and weed control as well as watering
- Ensuring that health and safety regulations are complied with and that equipment is kept in a good condition
- Assisting with basic maintenance of the garden centre (painting, small repairs) plus stock takes
- In the absence of the departmental supervisor, ensure the smooth running of the plant area
- Ensuring plants and products are merchandised to their fullest potential, providing inspirational displays and leading the team by example
- In the absence of the supervisor, organise team members staff and ensure all tasks are completed on time and to the required high standards to include daily task lists

Person specification:

Essential skills:

- The ideal candidate will have a horticultural qualification or previous experience and knowledge if a wide selection of garden plants.
- Have worked in retail with proven customer service and merchandising skills preferred
- Be an excellent communicator with proven inter-personal skills
- Be physically fit and able to cope with standing all day and cope with the physicality of the job.
- Having a first aid certificate and training in the application of pesticides is advantageous.
