The Children and Young People's Empowerment Project (CHILYPEP) is a registered charity that has worked with disadvantaged Children and Young People for over 15 years. Chilypep, in partnership with three other charities and a secondary school in Sheffield, have been awarded funding for a new project to improve community cohesion. The RUBIC project, which stands for Respect and Understanding - Building Inclusive Communities, will work with asylum seekers, refugees and other new arrivals as well as more settled communities in their own neighbourhoods. By engaging with people who have been in Sheffield all their lives as well as more recent arrivals, Chilypep and partners hope to increase understanding and create more resilient communities.
The Project is funded for three years through The Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund.

Key Tasks

The post involves working as a Project Participation Worker within the work of the Rubic project, which will be running in North Sheffield, from April 2017 to March 2020. The PPW will take lead responsibility for supporting the involvement of young people in the project. The key tasks include:

Working with the Rubic Coordinator and project delivery team to:

1. Recruit and support young people to engage in the project

2. Support young people to engage in groups, communities and schools, and become

3. young community leaders

4. Set up and run support groups for newly arrived young people to develop their skills, confidence and social opportunities

5. Facilitate opportunities for young people from established and newly arrived communities to develop understanding and positive relationships with each other and the wider community

6. Support young people to engage in influencing local activity, priorities, and decision making

7. Carry out project monitoring and evaluation and produce reports

8. Attend project delivery team meetings

9. Support and manage project volunteers

10. Build effective networks with relevant community groups, voluntary and statutory agencies

11. Manage activity budgets

12. Work with the evaluation lead to develop and co-deliver the evaluation plan
