Main purpose and scope of the post:
City College delivers an exciting range of computing courses at both FE and HE level. A vacancy has arisen for a Technician to support this provision by maintaining all of the computer workshop facilities and supporting lecturers to develop teaching and learning resources and computer workshop displays. The post requires a highly motivated technician to take responsibility for the to set up of computer systems for 'stand-alone' and networking classes, primarily based on Microsoft Windows operating environments but also Linux systems.
The successful candidate will have an excellent practical knowledge of PC and network maintenance, including Windows Server 2008 R2, testing and configuration. A relevant BTEC or similar L3 qualification, Foundation Degree or professional qualification such as CompTia A+ and Network+. is essential.
The Technician role is both diverse and busy and requires a highly proactive, enthusiastic and flexible person who can work calmly under pressure. The successful applicant must have good communication skills and have very strong organisational, time management and problem solving skills, and an ability to work effectively with both staff and students across the curriculum area.
