Principal Engineer (Control Damage Hazards)

Would you like to ensure system integrity within complex environments? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Control Damage Hazards) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer (Control Damage Hazards), you will be accountable for a group of hazards and you will own a shortlist of consequence mitigation. You will be responsible for the system environment and design change, agreeing and undertaking negotiations about the design with key stakeholders. You will be investigating wider effects rather than the cause in isolation, checking the impact on dependencies at a whole boat level.

This role will provide you with the chance to work on a cutting-edge submarine programme, combining your technical and interpersonal skills to ensure a successful system environment.


Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Control Damage Hazards) will involve:

Managing the integration of the Control Damage Hazards (CDH) solution, therefore working closely with System Integration Team (SIT) Leads, system owners and Product Safety

Identifying hazards and putting them in the appropriate place/allocating to the relevant system owners

Leading the discussion around the CDH solutions across the Engineering function for the platform, allocating owners of hazards and being the owner where there isn't one allocated

Developing the CDH Principles of Operations document and following on associated guidance on design

Acting as the Functional Lead for Control Damage Hazards; facilitating and coordinating the drive for engineering integration across the whole boat function and stakeholders


Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer (Control Damage Hazards):

Essential:

Experience engaging a variety of stakeholder groups to design solutions
Demonstrable experience of engineering system design
Demonstrable experience of major asset operations and Major Hazard Management
Degree qualified in a STEM related discipline or equivalent experience


Desirable:

Submarine operation experience
Demonstrable ability to write technical documentation and deliver the content to others
Chartered Engineer or working towards
