The YouView Test Team is central to the timely delivery of high quality software from the YouView Engineering team. The team undertakes ‘Dev Testing’ of pre-integrated software components as well as integration and end-to end testing of the YouView Ecosystem. Test team members interact with most areas of the business as well as external teams such as Device Manufacturers and Content Partners. This calls for well-honed communication skills, good technical ability, a strong desire to get things done and confidence to help make changes where necessary.

This particular role is focussed on delivering robust, thorough and timely test activities during the development testing phase of YouView software, prior to full integration. As part of the testing team and reporting to the Head of Test, the objective is to measure and improve the quality of software components before gating into the integration phase. As such the Development Test Manager is responsible for coordinating the delivery of ‘dev test’ activities utilising a small team of test engineers ‘embedded’ within the software development teams during the development phases and prior integration testing.

Responsibilities

The Development Test Manager has the following responsibilities:

• define the objectives and test scope for each test phase (development and integration testing) based on change and integration risk;
• plan, prioritise and execute development test activities across the team;
• resource allocation and management;
• publish test results that reflect the quality and completeness of features delivered during each development sprint;
• use Jira to capture story and task status and track progress;
• interface with senior stakeholders from the Product, Technology, Operations, Delivery and external teams;
• working collaboratively with Device Manufacturers, YouView engineering and Product teams in the identification, analysis, triage and prioritisation of defects;
• communicate complex issues effectively across all levels of the organisation (technical and non-technical) and actively participate in resolving those issues;
• ensure that all phases of the development process are properly followed from capturing requirements to producing the right deliverables;
• ability to maintain process integrity in self-organising teams; and
• identify and execute test process improvements.

Experience

The candidate must possess the following qualifications and attributes:

• a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent discipline is required;
• have experience in testing Linux-based embedded computer systems, ideally Set-Top Boxes;
• have a proven track record working in Lean or Agile based software development teams;
• have experience of DTT (DVB) and IPTV testing projects;
• demonstrate a good understanding of IPTV/DTT architecture;
• have a proven background in testing and testing methodologies;
• have a proven track record of leading technical test teams in an agile environment;
• have a proven track record in providing high quality tests services within tight time constraints;
• have proven track record as a hands-on technical test manager;
• experience with white box testing;
• be ISTQB-BCS certified;
• have a clear and logical approach to problem solving;
• ability to work independently and with a team; and
• an assertive nature and the ability to work closely with engineers.

Desired skills

• have experience in technical functional testing of devices such as: Acquisition & Presentation of AV media via IP & DTT, Software Management, Power Management, DVR, Content Discovery;
• be familiar with video and audio encoding standards;
• be familiar with analysing Dbus logs or similar communication protocols;
• be familiar with network protocol analysis tools such as Wireshark analysis and server configuration, bandwidth throttling;
• have experience in test automation tools & techniques; and
• direct experience in computer programming, scripting and software development.
