PART TIME SHOP MANAGER

At Norton sub Hamdon Community Shop

GENERAL INFORMATION:  Norton Community Shop is situated in the heart of the beautiful village of Norton sub Hamdon.  It is owned and managed by Norton sub Hamdon Community Land Trust Ltd which is a Community Benefit Society.  The Shop is run with the aid of approximately 40 volunteers, working to a rota.  The Shop is primarily a convenience store.  There is also a Post Office operating from the same premises, but run as a separate business.

JOB DESCRIPTION:   Posts will be for between 18 and 25 hours per week, to be determined to allow for any required flexibility.  Full training will be given.  The Shop is currently open for 6 days per week.

Essential qualities:

  • Applicants must be numerate; computer literate; good communicators; able to work under pressure; and work unsupervised.
  • Applicants must have an understanding of the Volunteers' role in the Shop and to be able to support the systems and responsibilities that this involves.
  • Applicants must understand  the relationship with the Directors of the Community Land Trust and those working on their behalf in supporting the business.
  • Applicants must hold a full driving licence.
  • Applicants must have some previous knowledge of and experience in the retail business.

HOURS OF WORK AND SALARY:   The successful applicants will be expected to cover each other's sickness and holidays, possibly at short notice.  Details of salary and more detailed job description  available on request to the Secretary.  Annual holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year (full time equivalent), including Statutory Bank Holidays.
