The Kinship Care Team is a dispersed team across Aberdeenshire Council and have a vacancy for a Social Worker post to work with Kinship Carers and Prospective Kinship Carers. The post is located within the Corporate Parenting Family Placement Service in a dedicated Aberdeenshire wide dispersed Kinship Care Team to provide a service across the authority. Key tasks will include the mandatory checks, assessments, training and support of Kinship Carers as statutory placements for children who are looked after away from home in line with the needs of placed children.

You are a qualified Social Worker (Diploma in Social SW or equivalent) and are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council. You are familiar with the Children Act 1995, Child Protection practices, child development and the principles of Getting it Right for Every Child in Kinship and Foster Care. As well as having an understanding of the concerns and needs of Kinship Carers you are also committed to promoting best outcomes for looked after children.

Advancement to Senior Practitioner grade is dependent upon post qualifying training and experience, as part of career progression, and gives an opportunity to support staff with practice development.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

This post has a minimum requirement of 2 references. One of these must be your current or most recent employer.

It is Aberdeenshire Council's procedure that applicants for vacancies of this nature require to attend an assessment centre as well as interview.

Please note, assessment centres and interviews may be carried out on different dates which will be confirmed in due course.
