Learning Support Assistants

Salary £16,194 - £17,571 per annum, pro rata

Hours per week: Flexible part time work.

Exact hours to be agreed with each successful candidate (courses run 7 days a week including evenings)

Fircroft is a residential college occupying a former Cadbury family home, set in six acres of beautiful grounds in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We were originally founded to provide educational opportunities for some of the most disadvantaged and excluded members of society. One hundred years on from the birth of Fircroft College, its mission of 'social justice' is more relevant than ever. Fircroft is a thriving and ambitious College with a vast and diverse community of learners and a strong ethos.

Fircroft is currently in an exciting phase of improvement and development, we are now in a position to appoint a team of Learning Support Assistants to provide learning and pastoral support to students and to assist with the work of our Student Services team. The main purpose of this role will be collaborate closely with our Student Services Team Leader, Tutors and our students to support learning by providing support. You will promote learner independence and motivation and enable use of assistive technologies and resources. You'll also research specific learning support needs and will complete all records that are relevant to learning support. Additionally, as part of the role, you'll assist with dealing with student enquiries, admissions paperwork, reception and admin duties.

To be considered for this role you must have experience of dealing with a range of people with different requirements together with a knowledge and experience of a range of learning needs and difficulties. Ideally, you'll hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or be willing to work towards gaining such qualifications. You will also have basic computing skills - use of databases, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc). You will also be a qualified first aider or be willing to undertake training to become a first aider.

The right person will be someone who can work flexibly, has very good communication and interpersonal skills, is empathetic and able to cope with difficult situations. Good customer service skills are also a requirement.
