LOCATION: Edinburgh
JOB TITLE: ICT Technician
SALARY & BENEFITS: circa. GBP16,500, GBP17,500 per anum
WORKING HOURS: Full Time - 9.00-5.00pm (37.5hrs per week) Monday-Friday

THE COMPANY: Our client is a Girls boarding school located in Edinburgh which was established in 1888 by the pioneers of women's education in Scotland. The school is now Scotland's largest all girls' school and the only all-through girls' school . The school also boasts a great reputation by being named as the top Scottish Independent School for their Advanced Higher results by the Best-Schools website UK league tables for 2014 and 2013, and second place in 2016 and 2015.

Due to a new opportunity arising they now seek an efficient and adaptable Full Time ICT Technician to join this existing and successful school.

THE ROLE: As an ICT Technician, you will be working within a small ICT/AV team where you will be required to support the installation and maintenance of new equipment/projects and to provide technical support of learning and teaching, in line with the development of the school's ICT resources.

Key Responsibilities for the ICT Technician's role in Edinburgh :
  • Connect, set up and provide routine maintenance tasks, as well as install new software packages on PC's
  • Maintain, upgrade and minor repair a wide range of PCs and peripherals; install complete applications and trouble-shoot basic problems
  • Install and set basic configuration options for equipment such as switches and Wireless Access Points.
  • Detect, diagnose and resolve PC, peripheral and application errors
  • Carry out Photography and video filming using digital SLR cameras effectively and/or digital video equipment to record school events
  • Use the Adobe Suite (Photoshop and Premiere) for post processing and video editing and assist with the management of the video steaming system (Clickview)
  • Update records of installed hardware and software and maintain a software library and store original copies of installed applications and inventory
  • Respond to support requests according to school procedures, recording detailed diagnostic information and using appropriate knowledgebase's /logs to inform diagnosis and resolution
  • Work to the school's support service definition; report on variations to contracted services and escalate contract/warranty issues appropriately.

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the ICT Technician's role must be hold and NVQ / HND (or equivalent qualification) related to computing or ICT. It is essential you have GSCE C grade (or equivalent) in English & Maths and have recent experience working in a busy ICT environment. You should have good knowledge of software and network integrity and security as well as the ability to work well in a reactive environment. You must be a good organiser who has great interpersonal skills and has a willingness or desire to undertake further training and professional development. Although not essential any previous experience working in an education environment such as a School, College or University would be desirable.


Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the ICT Technician's role in Edinburgh :-
  • A - C grade pass in GCSE/National 5 or equivalent in English and Maths
  • NVQ/HND in computing/ICT discipline
  • Proven recent working experience in a busy ICT role
  • Good knowledge of software and network integrity and security
  • Awareness of what interests young people in ICT and how they acquire skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Experience of working in an educational environment would be desirable
  • Will be required to undergo a PVG check
