Job title: CPE Platform Lead Data Analytics Designer

Location:

Business Context:

The Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) Platform sits within the Technology, Service and Operations (TSO) part of BT Group. The Platform is responsible for the e2e concept to market delivery of consumer electronic products (such as the BT Home Hub, Wifi and Powerline connectivity devices, DECT phones, SMART devices etc.) that enable Voice, Mobility and Broadband services for BT's Retail customers. We're also responsible for the gathering of Smart diagnostics data generated by the vast network of these devices and enrichment of this data to extract insights for continuously improving the experience to our customers.

Our work typically involves the following:
Technical leadership for ITTs & RFPs
CPE specification, design, engineering & delivery from concept to market
Vendor selection, technical supplier/vendor management
Leading CPE architecture, design & development, technical strategy & roadmap
Ensuring full inter-op of our devices with other BT network products and services
Design, development and testing of diagnostic capabilities associated with CPE
Design, development and testing of Big Data Analytics solutions to support customer experience

Key purpose of role:

The purpose of this role is to provide technical leadership as the Big data design authority in the CPE platform to design solutions that allow BT to bring focus our analytics with a particular concentration on the customer experience, from both the lead to cash (L2C) standpoint but principally from Trouble to resolve (T2R). The successful candidate will lead on feature designs for new capabilities which utilise the Cloudera CDH suite of tools integral to BT Hadoop as a service offering and will support enhancements to existing capabilities, as well as supporting the appropriate test, integration, deployment and support teams on related design issues. The role holder will be expected to proactively work to understand complex systems from both empirical and design information. All Designs will provide key solutions incorporating multiple data sources, the enrichment of data and its usage to get better insights into our customers, ultimately feeding into reactive and proactive fault monitoring and driving our customer first strategies.

Familiarity with the Cloudera CDH specifically Spark and Kafka as an ingest mechanism and its usage to stream near to real time data is expected, as the consumption of accurate and current data is key to supporting BT business Key performance indicators (KPI's) that are exposed both for reporting and data wrangling purposes through multiple consumers.

Key responsibilities:

To be accountable for the definition and delivery of big data analytic solutions that support the BT Consumer and Business service offerings
To work with all relevant stakeholders to capture requirements, document designs / interfaces / changes / improvements, and get them reviewed and approved in accordance with the design process and to agreed plans.
To support all stakeholders in the design of data analytics providing best practice guidance
To support all teams (internal and external) in understanding the design impacts of new changes.
To lead on specific designs / design related issues or incidents, proactively working to identify the problem to be address and the proposed solution(s) and providing appropriate design documentation.
Could be responsible for direct line managing or matrix managing of designers.
To contribute to the development and implementation of CPE Data Analytics platform policies and roadmap.
To follow agreed design procedures and to maintain documentation in line with the agreed design procedures.
To liaise with internal, external and third party component suppliers.
To provide technical consultancy to business stakeholders and project teams (including suppliers).
To provide technical consultancy to the support teams.
To identify improvements to CPE Data analytics, technologies or processes and implement to an agreed plan.
Act as the CPE Data Analytics Platform design authority to :
Agree design patterns and solution approaches to capabilities with the platform architect
Review requirements and designs and advise on a designs that CPE Data Analytics and BT HaaS
To personally participate in and contribute to BT wide professional community activities where applicable e.g. knowledge sharing, best practice within BT and external industry.
To use the relevant BT wide professional community framework to raise their skills and those of their team to the recommended PC standards.

Skills:

Design:
Essential - UML, XML, Big Data Solution design knowledge.
Desirable - Cross-platform design experience & BT Design Standards.

Architecture:
Essential - Big Data architecture, including best practice usage, configuration and performance of Kafka, Spark, Hive, HDFS, Oozie and Flume.
Essential - microservice architecture.
Essential - experience with tools to automate specifications and interfaces.

Communication:
Essential - good communication and presentation skills.

Technologies:
Essential - Cloudera CDH, or the Apache foundation Big Data toolset
Desirable - Data Ingestion and enrichment design and implementation; Hadoop design and implementation, deployment design and implementation.
