Pukka Herbs - creators of delicious organic herbal tea and incredible health supplements that take people on a journey of discovery to a healthier, happier life - is looking for a proactive Agricultural Standards Specialist to join Pukka's Quality Team.

So, tell me about the role???

As our Agricultural Standards Specialist, you will seek to optimise the herb supply and herb quality to fully deliver Pukka's growth through close, well informed partnerships with our overseas and UK suppliers. Anticipate opportunities and risks to plan, and where necessary, develop new or alternative sources. You will optimise the agricultural performance of our supply chain, with a real focus on crop yields, herb quality, commercial sustainability and the long-term availability of our vital raw materials

What will I be doing?

You will promote education and knowledge sharing to maximise the competitive advantages of herbal and agricultural expertise for Pukka and our supply partners. Additional to this, you will:

- Conduct overseas supplier visits to assess production standards and build relationships with suppliers to maintain the required presence and influence production standards.

- Provide training to field officers and herb growers in organic farming, use of appropriate plan varieties, crop rotations, crop nutrition, pest and disease management.

- Facilitate the development of UK based herb suppliers.

- Conduct assessments on the genetic and environmental variables that have an effect on the quality of the harvested plant material, including the effect of approved organic inputs.

- Assist with the implementation of wild management harvesting plans and the implementation of Fair Wil, Fair Trade and Fair For Life standards whilst also using photographic and video documentation throughout the year.

- Assess planting plans and crop yields. Assist suppliers to establish appropriate cropping areas and plant densities for the required annual forecast.

- Collect and provide sourcing and technical information to aid New Product Development, Customer Services, Marketing and Quality Control enquiries.

- You will also champion Pukka's aims, Objectives and Values.

- Develop and update Herbal Monographs including species-specific identity, contaminants, particular agricultural requirements

What kind of person are we looking for?

It's quite a challenge we've set ourselves and only the most discerning, compassionate and purposeful can be part of our journey. You must embrace Pukka's vision to connect people, plants and the planet and be capable of putting every effort into making sure we are maintaining a high level of agricultural standards. You will have the following:

- A degree level in Agriculture or Horticulture with emphasis on sustainable/organic food production

- Recently qualified graduate or evidence of up-to-date, best practice organic farming experience and can influence and negotiate, research and evaluate, network and build relationships

- A confident independent traveller who is sensitive to cultural differences with the demonstrable personal skills to 'make things happen' with an understanding of International regulations on trading plant species.

- You will have a passion for plants, herbal medicine, ecology and therefore the knowledge of medicinal herd production and uses.

- An understanding of quality systems including the principles of GACP, GMP and certification programmes such as Organic, Fair Trade, Fair Wild and Fair for Life

- A second language is desirable as well an excellent report writing skills.

- You will be persistent, resilient and determined and have the ability to communicate effectively and have a flexible approach to both work and change.

What should you do next?

If you're not familiar with Pukka, grab a cuppa (preferably one of ours!) and check out the Pukka Planet to get a full understanding of who we are, what we do and why we do it.
