LOCATION: Chicksands, Shefford (near Bedford), Bedfordshire
JOB TITLE: Agricultural Engineer / Agricultural Mechanic
SALARY & BENEFITS: Competitive dependent on skills and experience
WORKING HOURS: Full Time - Monday to Friday (39 hours per week plus overtime available)
THE COMPANY / ROLE: Our client are farming specialists that has been farming in the Bedfordshire area since 1927 . The farmed area is around 2000 acres and produces Wheat, Potatoes and Onions across various farms within a 12 mile radius of the home farm at Chicksands where they have around 24 staff plus additional staff during peak times. Tractors used are mainly John Deere 6930 / 6150R models all with JD RTK GPS plus a few other non JD brands for light duties around the yard and they now require a skilled engineer to maintain their farm equipment and machinery.
The Farm workshop has recently moved into a new large building where the right candidate will be required and encouraged to assist with the planning and logistics of the layout - This is a great opportunity for a skilled mechanic / agricultural engineer to become an integral part of an expanding group and be a valuable member of the team.
Key Responsibilities for the Agricultural Engineer / Agricultural Mechanic's role in Chicksands, Shefford (near Bedford), Bedfordshire include:
- Responsible for servicing and maintaining Farm Equipment, including dealing with breakdowns, carrying out maintenance checks, identifying and repairing faults
- Carry out general welding and fabrication work
- Lead Farm staff when they are working on machines in the workshop - helping with guidance/training and working together with them
- Responsible in the purchasing of parts / consumables on the best possible terms and maintaining the workshop stores
- Planning the annual servicing schedule with input from the Farm Manager to ensure all equipment is maintained and ready for use
- Maintaining electronic records on the Farm APP (Tablet based) which includes servicing detail
- Work as part of a team and safely in conjunction with company policies
THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the Agricultural Engineer / Agricultural Mechanic's position must either have previous working experience within a similar type role and/or a related Engineering qualification. You should have good knowledge of and previous experience servicing and maintaining agricultural equipment and tractors or at least on commercial vehicles. It is essential you have good communication skills, basic IT skills and can work well within a team. Previous experience in welding and fabrication would be desirable.
The suitable applicant would be expected to provide their own hand tools. The Company supplies all other workshop equipment.
Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the Agricultural Engineer / Agricultural Mechanic's role in Chicksands, Shefford (near Bedford), Bedfordshire :-
- Previous working experience in similar role or related qualification essential
- Must live within or be able to commute to Chicksands, Shefford (near Bedford)
- Experience maintaining farm equipment and Tractors, ideally John Deere
- Previous Welding and Fabrication experience would be desirable
