Legal Assistant to Visually Impaired Employee

Leeds City Centre

GBP19,500 per annum

37.5 hours per week

9am - 5.30pm, Monday to Friday

We are working on behalf of one of our exclusive client, a leading set of barristers centrally located in the traditional legal and financial quarter of Park Square in Leeds.

We are recruiting for a Personal Assistant to support one of their Pupil Barristers who is severely sight impaired.

The personal assistant will be responsible for assisting with a number of tasks on a daily basis. This includes helping with paperwork, providing a visual description of images, creating hard copies of court documents, accompanying her to court as well as providing general assistance both in court and in chambers.

We are looking for a professional, patient and proactive candidate who has a keen interest, and good awareness, of legal processes, who can be flexible in their approach to assisting the Pupil Barrister.

Day to Day Responsibilities;

- Assisting with paperwork
- Transferring information into an accessible format
- Creating hard copies of specific documents
- Describing images, plans and any other relevant documents that require visual analysis
- Proof reading any relevant documents

- Court Work
- Accompanying the Pupil Barrister at Court - Access to your own transport would be advantageous but not essential.
- Dealing with any last-minute document additions - reading, formatting or other assistance with documents.
- Assisting in court hearings, for example by locating documents and providing them to the judge.
- Providing general visual assistance at Court, ensuring the Pupil Barrister is comfortable with the layout if she has not attended that particular court previously.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an understanding of legal processes - you may have worked within a legal administrative role or you could be a graduate of Law who is looking for a position that will give you a greater understanding of the inner workings of a barristers' chambers.

- Proactive - you will be hands on and practical, asking if you can assist with other duties before being asked
- Patience - our ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in working with someone with a disability; this position has the scope to be a very rewarding experience and we are looking for candidates who will thrive in this setting
- Discrete - you will be privy to sensitive and confidential information when attending court, and confidentiality is paramount
- Additional skills required - a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, a good educational background and ideally a driving licence and access to own vehicle
- Being a Dog Lover is essential! You will be working alongside a lovely and extremely well behaved Golden Labrador.
