Job Description:

Our Client is the UK's leading waste-to-energy biodiesel producer with operations in Scotland and North West England and has always been privately owned. Their main plant, near Motherwell in Scotland, started production in 2005. They are currently looking to recruit for a Group Compliance Manager to be based either at their Stanlow or Motherwell site.

A direct report to the Head of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) with key responsibilities to deliver legal and commercial compliance levels in key areas such as health and safety, environmental and product management. The role covers all operational sites within the Group and provides advice, auditing and the development of a management system which will meet third party expectations (ISO14001, OHSAS18001 and ISO9001.) The function will support commercial goals as well as meeting all business-related legislation. This role will drive initiatives to reduce the company's carbon footprint and meet the new standard set for Bio Diesel production which in turn, will place the Company at the forefront of the industry sector.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

General SHE and Compliance activities

  • Direct collaboration with the SHE Co-ordinators, developing strong relationships to understand the teams' drives and needs at each site.
  • Able to understand the requirements of external audit systems such as HSG65, OHSAS18001 ISO14001 and ISO9001. This should also lead to full understanding of the company's compliance levels in meeting low Carbon Foot-Printing.
  • To deliver the standards required for meeting ISO14001, OHSAS 18001 and assist in meeting ISO9001 accreditation.
  • To deliver and adjust controls against the group's IPPC (environmental permit levels) and set up audits to monitor performance.
  • Ensure all compliance systems meet the required compliance standard being set and is co-ordinated throughout all levels of the business simplifying the information where appropriate to ensure fully understood.
  • Able to project manage and manage cost improvement items and individual programmes to facilitate a decrease in Carbon Footprint and support general SHE Capital Projects.
  • Drive Improvement Plans through the involvement of teams in all functional areas.
  • To carry-out and monitor internal site SHE Audits to measure compliance against the legal requirements, company policies and procedures. This should also extend to the carbon footprint levels being achieved for all sites.
  • Manage and communicate with external third party auditors e.g. the HSE, SEPA the EA and Insurers, liaising with the site SHE Co-ordinators as required.
  • Achieve the required levels from the company's annual 3rd Party Health and Safety Audit for the site, this includes the Jelf and ROSPA Audits.
  • Track and measure site performance against the company's SHE and Compliance KPIs and Objectives with the aim to continuously improve the sites to achieve ROSPA Awards
  • To liaise closely with the group Sustainability Programme and achieve the lowest levels of Carbon Foot-Printing for the business.
  • To liaise directly within the other functions of the business and assist the programmes being established to meet any legislative or compliance requirements e.g. veterinary, quality, insurances and commercial activities.

Qualifications/ Knowledge & Experience

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree or equivalent
  • NEBOSH General Health and Safety Certificate
  • Recognised Environmental Management Certificate (membership of IEMA)

Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • Able to show Ancillary Health, Safety and Environmental Qualifications on specific technical updates and supplements as part of their continuous development.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar SHE Role.
  • Experience in dealing with the external authorities and external HS&E audit systems e.g. HSG65 or OHAS 18001 and ISO 14001.
  • Experience of working in a Production environment.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate to a high standard in written, verbal and presentation areas.
  • Demonstrable report writing and analysis skills.
  • Able to demonstrate creative and flexible management skills in team working and in personal style.
  • Influencing and persuasion skills to ensure that all Argent Teams understand their responsibilities in maintaining and achieving the standards set.
  • Be commensurate with Microsoft Office suite and be PC literate.
  • Have gone through some recognisable Management Training or have demonstrated a good level of management function within previous roles.
  • Project Management skills would be desirable.
  • Experience or knowledge of Animal By-Products Regulations and/or dealing with the Animal Plant Health Agency.
  • Travel to other Group sites may be required
