The company is an innovative, market-leading lawyers who specialise in commercial debt recovery & litigation. Based in modern offices on the outskirts of Guildford with ample parking, there is a vacancy in their focused, but friendly, Legal Department.

Purpose of Job:

The company is looking to recruit a Legal Department Manager to oversee the management and operational work of the Legal Department whilst also managing a small case load.

Key Objectives:

Professional:

  • Maintain and verify attainment of all service levels set out in Price lists, terms of business and client special agreements
  • Advising clients in clear and simple terms as to the most cost-effective action to recover debt and keeping them informed throughout on progress
  • Maintaining and improving professional knowledge and competencies to ensure best advice given to clients

Productivity:

  • Accurate daily processing of instructions given by clients or required in legal processes
  • Improving working methods and systems to handle work more reliably and efficiently, freeing staff time to handle more cases per staff member employed
  • Arranging and testing any new software changes, or fixes
  • Ensure all client and procedure changes are implemented and communicated to staff.

Staff Team:

  • Supporting and training all members of the team and helping them progress rapidly in their knowledge of the legal processes, communication skills with clients, and consistency of delivery
  • Ensure all staff have yearly appraisals and up to date training plans
  • Engendering a happy and respectful atmosphere within and without the department staff.

Commercial:

  • To set and achieve clear annual sales growth objectives.
  • Work with MD and Sales & Marketing Manager to identify commercial opportunities ensuring the department grows.
  • Carry out regular reviews of the usage of Top 10 clients, and attend monthly client meetings with paralegals
  • Ensure clients are correctly billed for our services every month.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Debt recovery law and procedure including CPR
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work
  • Ability to motivate and envision team members
  • Computer literacy and keyboard skills.
  • Good communication, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to retain sense of humour in times of pressure
  • Ability to distinguish the important or urgent from the less important or urgent
  • Ability to focus on attainment of goals whilst maintaining company policies throughout.
  • Managing and leading a team within a law firm preferable
  • Client account management
