The Company

An independent chemical laboratory with a solid and varied customer base providing analysis services to the aerospace, automotive, defence and metal finishing industries.

UKAS and Nadcap Accredited with many corporate approvals (e.g. Airbus, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, Bombardier, GKN Aerospace, Safran Group,). Based in Westwood Heath, Coventry with a nearby satellite location and established over 30 years ago.

Manufacturer of specialised aerospace coating products and HSE monitoring equipment.

Due to business growth, now looking for additional resource to support an evolving expansion.

The successful candidate will be offered a position with a 6 month probationary contract after which there will be a review. The possible outcomes of the review will be; contract extension, the termination of the contract or the offer of a permanent role.

 

The Person

Ideally qualified to “A” level or equivalent in a science based discipline, preferably inorganic chemistry with experience in a laboratory role fulfilling an analytical function.

Capable of working within a small team and also on their own initiative, being computer literate with experience of MS Office, email and internet packages.

Full, clean, UK driving licence.

Tenacious, with a desire to achieve a high standard of work and able to work within established Quality System procedures. An ability to solve technical problems under one's own initiative, tempered with a willingness to seek expert assistance when required.
Self-motivated with a calm and methodical approach to work during busy periods.

 

The Role

The control of processing materials used in metal finishing using chemical analysis by established wet chemistry techniques.

Instrumental analysis (Flame AAS, IC, stripping voltammetry, auto-titration, digital meters).

Sample management and control to work within and maintain Quality System procedures.

Performance testing of coatings using Salt Spray accelerated corrosion techniques; sample preparation, workflow control, assessments and the subsequent generation of customer reports.

Required to interface and liaise with customer contacts to provide results, advice and clarify anomalies.

The work is essentially a “production line” and is therefore always time critical.

Predominantly based at our main laboratory with periodic attendance to nearby satellite location.

Some occasional travel to customer premises.

 

The Benefits

Competitive hourly rate (between £9.50/hr to £12.00/hr dependant on experience and qualifications)

Part time hours – consisting of 15-20 per week, the actual work pattern is yet to be decided and the hours per week are expected to increase as our business grows.

Some flexibility available and overtime will be required to cover absences and busy periods.

Pro-rata paid holiday (based on 5 weeks plus 8 days statutory holiday)

Full training provided with mentoring for internal methods and procedures.

Staged pay increases based on successful sign-off for training packages and modules.

Industry specific training available externally by metal finishing trade body and quality system providers

Annual pay review.
