The Role:
- To ensure that the packaging used is fit for purpose and is optimised for the line while meeting specifications and customer requirements.
- To support the packaging purchasing function within the business on NPD/EPD projects, from concept to launch.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide technical support to Customers and Commercial colleagues to achieve optimum packaging performance, particularly with relation to artwork capabilities of current/future suppliers, while meeting customer requirements.
- Develop and define commercially viable packaging, pallet stacking formats and cutter guides, providing artwork support and approval as required and attending print runs where necessary.
- Provide the business with information on changes to packaging legislation and the potential impacts.
- Utilise supplier resources as required to ensure optimum use of materials, service and quality.
- Support with the maintenance of the Approved Suppliers List and ensure that specifications are maintained up to date for all packaging materials.
- Support the packaging development process, proposing innovative solutions within all New Product Development (NPD) and Existing Product Development (EPD) to ensure that they are completed in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure all departments and suppliers are kept informed at all stages of the process as necessary and liaise with key stakeholders on development and production of mock-ups.
- Support Continuous Improvement activities within Operations, challenge bad practice, wastage and perceptions regarding supplier, service and materials, to achieve the most efficient and added value method of operation. An example would be to support factory trials.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Experience of food packaging, technologies and processes
- Ideally qualified to degree or equivalent level in a packaging technology or science discipline
- Experience of working with retailers
