Linux Infrastructure Support Engineer
An overview of the opportunity...
We have a new opening within the Linux Infrastructure team that supports our ever-growing prof.ITplus customer base. It’s an exciting opportunity to work within a growing team to help offer support, maintenance, and guidance to our software customer base. It can be a fast-paced environment consisting of backup routines, fax administration, firewall administration, general server issues, printer issues, VPN, email issues, Critical Server Recovery and any additional tasks identified.
The Linux Infrastructure Support Engineer will take responsibility and ownership for supporting the Software Customer Base to include our Company business management software - prof.ITplus and their associated applications consisting of backup routines, fax administration, firewall administration, general server issues, printer issues, VPN, email issues, Critical Server Recovery and any additional tasks/subjects/issues identified.
The jobholder will be required to follow the OGL Support process(es) ensuring that the highest level of support and service is delivered to both the customer base and inter departmentally at all times.
Key Responsibilities…
- Provide escalated software support to customers who are using Linux Servers, working closely with the team ensuring that SLAs are met
- Maintaining, configuring and monitoring Linux Operating Systems and the ability to troubleshoot when issues arise from the server
- Offering advice and support to customers in a professional manner
- Maintain a technical skill set to meet changing technologies within our customer base and general IT practices
What you should expect…
The Helpdesk currently handles a high volume of customer enquiries and incidents on a daily basis and the role of the Linux Infrastructure Support Engineer is to provide both reactive and proactive technical support, consultancy and guidance in relation to issues and requirements, establishing solutions and recommendations to the Software Customer base, including support of both the Software and Technical Divisions.
You need to be able to maintain and manage a different variety of Linux Operating Systems and be familiar with the associated packages and applications that operate around the Operating System.
Working within tight guidelines and knowledge of Windows environments maybe necessary to resolve some incidents and queries.
We will provide training but you should have a previous background in a Linux based role.
Hours: 38 hours 15 minutes per week (Monday to Friday)
Who you will be working with...
You’ll report to our Software Support Manager and become a member of our Helpdesk Team which consists of Application Support First, Second & Third Line and Linux Infrastructure Support First, Second & Third Line Support. You will also work closely and collaborate with Sales, Account Management, Software Development, Software Support and the Technical Division.
The ideal candidate...
- Experience with supporting Linux servers in physical and virtualized environments
- Familiarity with the fundamentals of Linux scripting languages
- Experience of installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Bind, DHCPD, Apache, MySQL, CUPS, Samba etc.
- Ability to build and monitor services on production servers
- Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills
- Passion to deliver exceptional customer service
- A desire to build strong customer relationships
