HR Manager that has a generalist Human Resources background with good Employment Law / Employee Relations (ER), Team Management and Leadership experience is required by a leading Specialist Vocational College based in London.

SALARY: up to £38,000 pro rata

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an HR Manager that has a generalist Human Resources background with good Employment Law / Employee Relations (ER), Team Management and Leadership experience.

Working as the HR Manager you will be responsible for co-ordinating strategic and practical human resources work in consultation with the Executive Board for the staff and managers.

As the HR Manager you will have a proven breadth of human resources experience and the ability to make reasoned arguments and provide evidence to support these. A proven ability to consult, negotiate and influence are a must-have, as are excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to use your own initiative. The ideal candidate must be robust and resilient yet have a flexible and personable approach. You must be highly numerate and have good IT skills.

You will also strategically lead the department to achieve objectives to attract, retain and develop a first class work force to support the College in maintaining ‘Good’ as a current Ofsted grade and working towards an Outstanding Grade.

DUTIES

Your duties and responsibilities as the HR Manager:

  • Assume overall responsibility and manage full delivery of College requirements across HR core functions
  • Provide payroll with accurate details of new staff, leavers and any other changes that affect payroll
  • Provide coaching, advice and support to Line Managers on a wide range of employee relations issues
  • Maintain up to date employment law knowledge and provide expert advice as required, including for capability, disciplinary and grievance issues
  • Prepare for and lead in investigatory meetings and hearings as appropriate
  • Assist and support managers in investigations, preparing for disciplinary proceedings
  • Provide general advice and support to managers in the interpretation and application of all other HR policies and procedures
  • Assist in the drafting of tribunal documentation and other correspondence in relation to legal proceedings and attendance at Employment Tribunals as appropriate
  • Ensure all relevant policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated in line with current legislation and are clearly communicated to all employees and appropriate stakeholders
  • Keep the staff handbook and other employment information up to date and reflecting best practice
  • Resolve and respond to queries from managers and staff on individual terms and conditions, policies and procedures
  • Support managers to take action to reduce levels and increase levels of attendance across departments
  • The management of CPD team development for the Human Resources Team
  • Manage team effectively to ensure the render of a swift and efficient recruitment service
  • Manage the team to ensure that pre-employment checks, offer letters, contracts of employment and references meet the required standard
  • Provide coaching to Managers involved in the recruitment and selection process
  • Manage relationships and negotiate best rates with external recruitment agencies
  • Produce and review information on staff turnover, sickness etc. and recommend plans to address any problem areas
  • Work with the Executive Board and Line Managers to identify people development needs across the organisation, and develop a strategy to manage talent across the organisation
  • Manage the HR budget, including recruitment costs and expenditure on advertising and agency fees

IDEAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent
  • Sound employment law knowledge across a range of issues such as maternity, dismissals, grievance, up and coming legislation which affects the organisation
  • Knowledge of good HR practice and procedures
  • Excellent team management and leadership skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good level of numerical ability
  • The ability to deal with sensitive matters and an understanding of confidentiality issues including data protection
  • Ability to work to deadlines and with attention to detail

  • Ability to use a wide range of Microsoft Office packages particularly in the areas of Word, Excel and Outlook to advanced level
