The Grammar School at Leeds is seeking a talented and dynamic teacher of Geography to join this successful department at The Grammar School at Leeds from September 2017.

The Geography Department has previously been referred to as a beacon department by HMI! This position has been achieved by consistently deploying a variety of exciting, varied and experimental teaching styles, so that our pupils feel engaged, stretched and inspired.

Geography is taken by all pupils up to Year 9. At GCSE it is an options subject and numbers are high. Currently there are close to 150 pupils in each GCSE year. In the Sixth Form there are currently 8 A level sets with over 100 pupils. Academic results are excellent. The pass rates for GCSE over five years is 100% and last year 75% passed at grade A* or A. At Advanced Level the pass rate over the same period has been 100% and last year 88% achieved grade B or better. In recent years the numbers of pupils going on to study Geography related degrees has flourished, including success at Oxbridge entry.

Curricular field work is a vital part of our activities and is all departmentally run. Special interest is developed in the Yorkshire Dales in Years 9, as well as coastal and urban trips at GCSE. At A level we have established an overseas residential field course which in recent years has been based in Switzerland.

If successful, you would be joining a strong cohesive department of 8 specialist Geography teachers. You will have strong classroom management skills and will be expected to play a full part in this busy department.

Colleagues have the opportunity to participate in the wide range of extra-curricular activities available within the school and to support the House system.
