Job title: IP Network and Security Consultant





Location:

London preferred.

Other sites can be considered including Hatfield and Leeds but weekly travel to London will be required.

Attendance on a 24/7 call-out rota is required.







Key purpose of the role:

To support the various IP networks (Redcare, Payphone, MOJ and M2M) and continue to develop and enhance the infrastructure associated.

The role holder provides Consultancy, Design, Development, Integration and Support of professional services at a high technical level and is also responsible for the provision of technology & IT advice and services to both internal and external clients.

The role is often project-based and sometimes at different IP network sites or on a multiple site basis. The role will support technically and professionally in the design of networks, services, systems architecture as well as the development and integration of overall solutions.

Activities will include 'in depth' analysis of faults, design (both for high and lower level solutions), development, testing/integration and maintenance/support as well as consultancy.

The role may also include some element of people management and or matrix management.

Member of 24x7 support team working on rota basis.

Specific to role:

• Operational support of Cisco, Checkpoint and other network hardware and associated OS
• Experience in supporting complex high availability LAN's and WAN's
• In-depth knowledge of network monitoring tools and techniques.
• Support on design for Payphones, Redcare and Prisons networks.
• Support on Design of network changes and enhancements.
• Support on reactive and proactive Support and capacity planning on IP Core and other Fire and Security networks.
• Provide design consultancy and Ordering of new links as required for WAN networks and ceasing unused link capacity.
• Support on configuration of routers, Firewalls and other network components for both customer access (e.g. Alarm Receiving Centres) and node connection and internal network builds
• Support, configuration, policies and capacity planning for Firewalls as maintained by TSO and used for Core Enterprises. Also maintaining access authentication e.g. TACACS.
• Maintenance policies and contracts with third parties for network and security components (e.g. Cisco, Nokia). Raising Purchase Orders for services for these.
• Lead on 'What's Up Gold' SNMP support.
• Developing and maintaining diagram documentation of networks supported within this role.
• Security and vulnerability reviews

Key responsibilities:

a) Proactive and reactive support on servers and network components in the Monument TE comms room; also environment requirements (e.g. Air Handling, UPS).
b) Citrix system used for internal operations - support and capacity planning.
c) Reactive and Proactive Support and capacity planning on IP Core and other Fire and Security networks (components, links, security). Analysis for determination of fault conditions as well as resolution.
d) Ordering of new links as required for F&S and M2M networks and ceasing unused link capacity.
e) Configuration of routers for customer access (e.g. ARCs) and node connection (e.g. Scanners).
f) Support and capacity planning on M2M networks (components, links, security) working in association with peers who are engaged in developing these networks for customer services.
g) Support of network components and links at Northampton via remote access.
h) Respond to emergency fault reports out of hours, and engage with peers to share cover.
i) Support, configuration, policies and capacity planning for Firewalls as maintained by TSO and used for Core Enterprises and New Ventures. Also maintaining access authentication e.g. TACACS
j) Maintenance policies and contracts with third parties for network and security components (e.g. Cisco, Nokia). Raising Purchase Orders for services for these.
k) What's Up Gold SNMP capacity planning and support as required (but not routine configuration).
l) Developing and maintaining diagram documentation of networks supported within this role.
m) Consultancy for New Ventures and other projects when required -amendments, implementation, and support considerations

Customers, NMC Northampton, M2M team, Redcare Host team, VV&T platform lead consultant, Test and Development team. MOJ, G4S
Redcare LoB.

People:
No current line manager responsibilities but some matrix management of 1 Senior Professional.


Qualifications: Typically engineering/science qualification but not essential.

CISCO certified to at least CCNP and ideally achieved or working towards CCIE.

Relevant professional experience.

SC clearance is a requirement for this role - you will be required to apply and maintain this level of clearance.
