Mission and Main Objectives

This vacancy is for an Electrical Engineer working in the team responsible for instrument cluster, driver controls and head-up display development. The team is part of the Electronics Division. The Division mission is to develop and successfully launch electrical and electronic systems onto existing and new vehicle platforms in Europe.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

The role provides a wide range of responsibilities ranging from managing the development of parts to existing vehicle BOM maintenance. The successful application should have a proven track record in supplier management and a strong engineering background. Important personal attributes include being well organised, a good communicator and able to show high levels of initiative and proactivity.

Responsibilities

- Managing global suppliers designing and manufacturing the parts.
- Preparing for and conducting design reviews for the parts.
- Regular reporting of quality, cost and timing status to management.
- Managing in-house and supplier validation of the parts.
- Resolving technical issues with in-house test departments and suppliers.
- Supporting vehicle development builds at European manufacturing sites.
- Preparation of functional specifications for instrument clusters and/or driver controls.
- Vehicle life cycle cost reduction idea generation and implementation.
- Vehicle life cycle warranty investigation and countermeasure implementation.

Background & Experience

- Experience of electronic part development within automotive industry or similar (e.g. aerospace).
- Understand electrical theory and the operation of common electronic components.
- Familiar with electronic part manufacturing methods.
- Be able to travel in the UK and abroad, typically a few days to 2 weeks.
- Competent with PC applications (MS office etc).

Minimum Education Required

Bachelors Degree

Specific Technical Skills

A selection of the following would be an advantage:

- Experience of instrument cluster, head-up displays or driver controls development.
- Experience of plastic parts development.
- Familiar with automotive electrical architecture.
- Experience of HMI development.
- Knowledge of display technology.
- Knowledge of CAN & CAN tools.
- Knowledge of software programming principles.
- Experience of working with and developing global suppliers.
