About Department
Accountable for:
Service management of all services used by the BCI business
Application support for all BCI owned services
Defining and driving the application support and service management global strategy.
Overall Purpose Of Role
Application Support Specialist to provide Level 2 incident management for applications within the Corporate RtB estate. Primarily this will be Barclays.Net, however there is flexibility on movement to support other applications.
Key Accountabilities
- Level 2 incident management
- Participation in service reviews and post incident reviews
- Complex issue triage, investigation and coordination to closure
- Data & Configuration changes execution
- Batch scheduling changes (Bank Holidays etc)
- Identification of service improvements and stability activities
- Complex issue triage, investigation and coordination to closure including leading triage on major incident calls
- Data & Configuration changes execution Batch scheduling changes (Bank Holidays schedules, etc)
- Collate data for Proactive Service Improvement Initiatives (does not include code changes) including trending of incidents, root cause and other MI to identify improvement actions
- First line for Consultancy Requests
- Own and Drive data for Capacity/Performance Management
- "On the ground interface" for business/change teams
- Ad Hoc Reporting where appropriate
- Reviewing of Implementation Plans & Release Documentation
- On call support and ad-hoc overtime as appropriate
- Maintain open and timely communication with relevant business, supplier and IT personnel, particularly Change the Bank development teams
Risk & Control Objective
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards
Person Specification
- Previous experience in a technical support / problem solving role
- Live service / application support experience
- Excellent written & oral communication
- Ideally the candidate will have had previous experience of Payment Processing applications utilising Oracle databases and web technologies (low level system administration skills are not required)
- Ability to drive complex application recoveries in a high pressured area.
- Ability to cover on call support and flexibility around working hours
- Ability to navigate UNIX and Linux operating systems as part of incident triage (review logs / configurations etc.) is essential.
- SQL - A good understanding of how to query a relational database is required so that ad-hoc reports and investigations can be performed on the application data
- Familiarity with UNIX / Linux scripting
- Familiarity with scheduling tools - TWS / Autosys
- Working knowledge of MQ messaging, UNIX, Connect Direct and Web (JBoss) technologies
- Previous experience of multi-platform technologies
