Associate Technical Director - Water Utilities
Exeter/ Plymouth

Our Water and Utilities team is involved in some of the UK's most complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. Requirements:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for Associate Technical Director to join our team based at our Exeter/Plymouth office in delivering engineering solutions and advisory services on wide ranging projects within the water and wastewater market sector.
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
* Relevant degree with consulting experience
* Post graduate qualification an advantage
* Recognised leader in specialist discipline with well-established industry networks
* Proven ability to network and influence at peer levels
* Well-developed commercial skills
* Chartered (or equivalent) member of an appropriate professional institution
* Excellent communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally
* Knowledge of full project lifecycle, from initial feasibility through to commissioning and handover.
* Ability to act as Lead Engineer on major capital projects
* Experience as team leader or manager and supervising more junior members of staff
* Experience in all aspects of water/wastewater design
* Experience of managing / liaising with subcontractors, producing specifications and dealing with performance guarantees
* Technical reviews
* Client facing
* Bringing new innovation into designs
General:
* Experience of delivering complex multi-disciplinary Design & Build projects
* Delivering projects in a BIM environment
* Design Management
Infrastructure:
* Asset management - infrastructure assessment, planning and design
* Security and resilience of supply
* SuDS
* Wastewater catchment planning
* Wastewater catchment storage attenuation, CSO interventions
* Pipeline hydraulics
* Pumping station and rising main design
* Utilities design co-ordination
Non-Infrastructure:
* Water, Wastewater Treatment/Process Planning and Design
* Hydraulic profile calculation
* Detailed design of water and wastewater treatment plants
* Constructability and Commissioning Awareness
* Multi-disciplinary project management/delivery
Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Service Leader, you will contribute to building relationships with new clients across the UK, leading / growing the team and encouraging innovative and entrepreneurial thinking. You will take a key role in projects within relevant specialist field, providing technical advice and overview as required, provide technical input into the bidding process and build a professional profile and reputation, for self and for Arcadis, within the industry at a local level.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
* To take a key role in projects within relevant specialist field, providing technical advice and overview as required
* To provide technical input into the bidding process
* To build professional profile and reputation, for self and for Arcadis, within the industry at a local level
* To manage the delivery of specialised components of projects
* To take an active part in Professional Excellence Groups (PEGs)
* To assist in the technical development of staff, coaching and mentoring on technical issues and assisting with chartered institution membership
* To establish and consolidate relationships with clients, both during and after project completion
* To use technical knowledge to identify and realise new client opportunities
Technical Leadership:
* Keeping up to date with technical and legislative developments and seek opportunities to develop professional profile such as giving presentations to relevant conferences/meetings/professional bodies and participation in technical committees for trade organisations and standards
* Building effective and enduring relationships within Sector and external organisations to foster co-operation and maximise cross-sell and trade-up opportunities in relevant specialist field
* Establishing an understanding of client businesses, their drivers and competitors
* Providing technical expertise and overview to client and stakeholders and assisting clients through technical decision-making and provide alternatives options/solutions if there are changes to project objectives
* Providing reassurance, confidence and a sense of direction to both client and project team members
* Assisting in the development of Arcadis's talent through coaching and mentoring and through the PEGs
* Ensuring awareness of health and safety in all aspects of design and operations
Operational management:
* Using understanding of the technical challenges and client business to form the most effective team
* Working with client and stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of project objectives and to set protocols for working together
* Communicating with team members to ensure that they understand, and become engaged with, the project strategy, brief and client requirements
* Seeking and documenting regular feedback from clients on the quality of Arcadis performance, technical solutions and delivery and advise on the appropriate mitigation as required
* Implementing innovation in technical issues, problem solving and the culture of the team, leading by example
* Undertaking technical reviews for projects
* Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Arcadis
