Financial Services- Client is looking to hire a Compliance Officer- Based in London

A well known Financial Services business focused on Investment Management and Financial Services Advisory.

Description

Financial Services- Compliance Officer Role- Based in London will be reporting to the Compliance Associate Director, will assist in carrying out regular monitoring in various business areas and provide compliance advice to the Tax & Business Services (TBS) business units.

The role will require Monitoring & other tasks

  • Assist with the monitoring of advice given by the firm's IFA division

  • Carry out various other monitoring tasks, as directed

  • Assist in the checking of the money laundering verification documents and information submitted by the business when setting up new client accounts

  • Assist in the compliance approval of marketing material, including financial promotions

  • Assist in the recording of breaches and errors

Reporting

  • Take responsibility for the timely production of the following reports arising from the monitoring activities:

  • Producing written monitoring reports to the firm's standard template, in a timely manner

  • Producing relevant management information and trend analysis

  • Compile breaches/incident reports arising from monitoring activity, investigate issues arising and report the outcome

Compliance guidance and advice

  • Provide advice and guidance to the business in respect of the firm's compliance requirements as required, including:

  • Appropriate content of marketing material

  • Assist in providing AML guidance to the business

  • Assist in ensuring that compliance department procedures manuals are updated as and when required

Regulatory Matters

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of regulations as they apply to the role, including FCA and ICAEW requirements

  • Undertake research into new regulations or legislation that might affect the areas covered by this role and provide advice to the Compliance Manager on the impact of these changes.

  • Assist in any process review to ensure the monitoring programs continue to test all appropriate areas of risk

Profile

The ideal Financial Services experienced- Compliance Officer key competencies:

    • Judgement: need to be able to judge when a matter is important and should be followed through, and the converse.

    • Planning and organising: must be able to plan monitoring activities in order to meet requirement of monitoring programmes and deadlines; must be able to organise self, paperwork and tasks.

    • Persuading and influencing: when monitoring reveals shortcomings it will be necessary to instigate and follow through remedial actions. This will involve getting staff to "buy in" to the issue and its resolution. Diplomacy is required here.

    • Written Communication: necessary for monitoring reports, breach reports, remedial actions etc???

    • Commercial awareness: all Compliance staff need to be aware of commercial constraints so that compliance, business production and good business practice go hand in hand.

    • Teamwork: necessary to work closely with other staff in the compliance function; also with staff in the business areas, to be seen as "one of us" rather than "one of them".

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • This is a very varied role and will require someone who is flexible and adaptable and can easily move from one area of regulation to another

  • At least one years' knowledge and experience of:

  • Compliance monitoring, preferably in a non-investment management environment

  • Report writing
