Salary: £35,000 to 40,000 pa dependent on experience

Position: Permanent, Full Time

A rare opportunity has arisen with one of the country's leading suppliers of commercial vehicle parts based at their UK Distribution Centre in Barnsley. The company is currently seeking an Operations Manager with a strong background in warehousing, distribution and excellent people management.

This is a Senior Management role reporting to the Operations Director and board generally. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of managing a busy warehouse operation on a day to day basis, achieving KPI's and as part of the senior manWorking closely with the Operations Director the successful candidate will lead and guide the two warehouse managers and five team leaders to attain the highest level of efficiencies and serviceability to all direct CV customers and third party logistics clients.

Key Responsibilities:

The role carries direct managerial responsibility for all warehouse functions, health and safety and stock management.

  • Effective leadership, delegation and control of the warehouse function to ensure that all goods are dispatched on a daily basis in accordance with sales and next day delivery targets.
  • Working with the procurement department overseeing the planning and management of 'goods in', including long term scheduling of deep-sea goods and third party contracts.
  • Working closely with all departments to ensure the smooth operational introduction of third party contracts and goods into the distribution center.
  • Operational Performance - monitor and manage KPI's, develop and implement operational improvements and efficiencies, develop a high performance workforce.
  • Implement and monitor waste minimisation projects.
  • Planning - Control of resources to ensure that daily targets are met and all areas are working to maximum capacity.
  • Compliance - ISO, Health and Safety, Environmental - driving and maintaining standards in all areas.
  • Routine performance management and annual reviews including a graded pay process.
  • Mentor and continue to develop the two warehouse managers and team leaders to ensure the company has a robust talent pipeline.

The successful candidate must have skills and experiences in the following areas:

  • Possess a working understanding of leadership principles and management best practice.
  • Experience and knowledge of all warehouse activities and individual roles
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal for a demanding and customer focused working environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Health and Safety Qualifications - working knowledge of health and safety best practise and legislation - IOSH as a minimum or extensive and proven experience.
  • Have a good working knowledge of HR processes.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy.
  • Possess strong computer skills and competency in basic MS Office applications - outlook, excel & word in particular
  • Have a working understanding of quality management systems.
  • Possess excellent personal organisational skills
  • Demonstrate initiative and drive under tight timescales and pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Knowledge of autopart or other general stock management systems/software programs.
  • The right to work in the UK without restrictions.

The Distribution Centre operates 24 hours a day Monday to Friday, with several shift rotations. The Operations Manager will be expected to take part and lead the on-call rota for the night shift team, providing a point of contact in the event of an emergency.

The Operations Manager will be expected to be flexible in terms of their working hours in order to meet the needs of the business and respond to monthly and seasonal sales peaks. The contracted hours will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
