CASEWORK SUPPORT OFFICER (R405)

Based in our Midlands Regional Office (Birmingham)

1x job share – 17.5 hours per week (work pattern must include Thursdays)

Commencing Salary £29,979 per annum (to be paid on a pro-rata basis)

Since 1870, the National Union of Teachers (NUT) has been a key player in the education field, both as a Trade Union and as a professional association. Our central purpose is to promote teaching as an attractive, well regarded and remunerated profession, and to promote education as a human right and public good.

The NUT plays a leading role in influencing education and employment policies at national and local levels. Our eight regional offices and Wales Office compliment the work of the Headquarters’ teams and focus on direct support to our members as well as organising activities, training and being the face of the Union in their region.

We are now seeking to recruit a Casework Support Officer on a job-share basis (17.5 hours per week work pattern which must include Thursdays) to join the NUT Midlands Team, based in Birmingham.

The Casework Support Officer will assist the Principal Officer in: providing telephone and written casework advice; undertaking correspondence on behalf of members in relation to their employment; advising lay officers in casework matters; conducting casework research and supporting officers in casework preparation; supporting the work of the union; carrying out trade union organising and assisting with union representative training.

Additionally, you will also assist the Regional Office by undertaking relevant areas of research work, and producing support material on priority issues for the Union regionally, so you will have excellent communications skills, and be able to work both as a part of a team and independently, exercising your own initiative, as needed.

Prospective applicants will need a commitment to the trade union movement and will have gained experience of working in the employment advice field, demonstrating an ability to analyse and apply conditions of service documents and policies. An understanding of the education landscape in England is desirable.

Commencing salary is £29,979 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of Luncheon Allowance of £948 per annum (pro-rata), together with good conditions of service including 25 days leave (pro-rata), (rising with service), generous concessionary leave at Christmas/New Year and after some bank holidays and a contributory final salary pension scheme.

Further details and an application pack can be downloaded from our website by clicking apply.

Completed application forms must be returned to NUT Headquarters by mid-day 8 March 2017.
