Job Role:

The company is looking for a PHP developer, with a good knowledge of both front and back-end development to join our growing team.

As part of this role, you will be expected to contribute to the development of the University's in-house student management system written in the Symfony 2 framework. This is a very large and complex project, so you will be expected to have an excellent understanding of core PHP development to be suitable for this position.

You will have the opportunity to accelerate your development career by learning from an experienced team, who will provide support and coaching on an ongoing basis. Progression beyond junior level will be a primary goal, at which point you will be expected to actively contribute to the coaching of newer team members.

Requirements and behavioural competences:

Technical;

  • Demonstrable ability with Object Orientated PHP
  • Knowledge of working with MVC frameworks
  • Confident with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Experience of working with databases (MySQL beneficial)

Behavioral;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable explaining technical solutions to all levels of users within a business environment
  • Ability to multitask. You may be required to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • A fundamental understanding and appreciation of a variety of underlying web technologies
  • Desire to learn new skills and take the initiative to research new technologies
  • Remain friendly and patient when under pressure

Desirable;

  • Commercial experience of working with MVC frameworks (Symfony 2 would be highly desirable)
  • jQuery experience
  • Comfortable with working in an Agile / Scrum environment
  • Exposure to unit testing
  • Knowledge of Linux or OSX command line
