Introduction:
My client is part of a worldwide organisation recognised as a market leader in the design and manufacture of mechanical seals and support systems. They are now looking for a mechanically biased Technical Sales Engineer to join their team. The successful candidate will sell their products to new and existing clients within a number of industries including food, chemical, pharmaceutical etc. This position covers the North East of the UK, therefore this would be an ideal opportunity for candidates living in the Middlesbrough, Durham, Sunderland, South Shields, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and surrounding areas. Based from home and covering your dedicated sales area, the successful Technical Sales Engineer will be confident, eager and dynamic and ideally will have a background within a technical/engineering based role working with rotating equipment and centrifugal pumps and have progressed into an established sales environment, although sales experience is not essential.

Candidates coming from an (ex-military) background i.e. Army (REME), Navy (Marine Engineer) or Royal Air Force/RAF (Aircraft Technician) particularly those with mechanical engineering, rotating equipment, centrifugal pumps experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the North East region, you will represent the company through face to face contact with customers and acquire, retain and win profit generating business.
- Identify and develop business within the region and build beneficial relationships with existing and new customers. You will be required to sell a large range of mechanical seals, systems and sealing solutions.
- Increase sales within a given customer base.
- Open and build on new accounts in the designated territory to contribute to sales targets.
- Assist customers in increasing MTBF through product selection.
- Gain market share from competitors to grow the company customer base.
- Maintain/update CRM system to provide an audit trail.
- Support and assist your team members where required.
- Manage day-to-day sales activities.
- Secure new business by negotiating contracts.
- Provide sales planning for the designated region, to ensure market potential is achieved and action plans are in place for further profitable growth.
- Bridge the local sales companies and central plc activities to ensure efficient and productive relationships on all aspects of sales, engineering support and customer service.
- Report on sales and company budgeting duties for the region.
- Management of key accounts.

Applicant Requirements:
Essential:
- A good understanding of Engineering / Mechanical principles of rotating equipment, pumps, mechanical seals, pressure vessels.
- You should be a self-motivated individual who is capable of developing your own efficient approach to your work.
- Very strong communication skills.
- Excellent negotiation and presentation skills.
- IT Literate with the ability to deal with order processing.
- Able to read, understand and use technical knowledge to promote and sell products.
- Highly organised.
- Flexible approach to travel, this is a field based role with extensive travel in the North East of the UK.
- Full driving license.
Desirable:
- Time served apprenticeship or relevant mechanical qualification.
- Previously worked within a technical sales role with industry knowledge.
