Fantastic opportunity not to be missed! The Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) has an exciting opportunity for a Postgraduate Medical Education Administrator to join the team in Holborn. Joining us on a full time one year fixed term contract basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £26,000 - £29,100 per annum.

The Royal College of Anaesthetists is the professional body responsible for educating, training and setting standards in Anaesthesia. We are looking for an experienced and organised individual to be part of our busy Training Team to assist in the administration of the UK training programmes for trainee Anaesthetists in accordance with the College’s obligations to the postgraduate medical education and training regulator, and support the revalidation and continuing professional development (CPD) needs of doctors.

The Team

The Training Department covers a diverse range of activities in support of Anaesthetists across the UK. Activities involve working with Postgraduate Deans, Deaneries as well as Health Education England and the General Medical Council (GMC) in the quality assurance of Anaesthesia training across the UK. Day-to-day tasks include responding to queries on the College’s e-Portfolio and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) systems, maintaining trainee records, and assessing applications for changes to individual training pathways; this diverse activity encompasses understanding of the Anaesthetic Curriculum.

The department offers support to the Regional Advisers, Deputy Regional Advisers, and College Tutors as well as others involved in the delivery of anaesthetic training such Training Programme Directors. The development of College policy on the management of training and issues across the UK is an important role of the Training Department as is the strategy for workforce planning for England and providing advice when required for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The Role

As part of the Training Team, the successful Postgraduate Medical Education Administrator will deliver advice and guidance to trainee anaesthetists, trainers and Deaneries on anaesthesia training policy and procedural issues. Providing support to users of the online e-Portfolio and CPD systems is a significant element of the post and involves help-guides, advice (telephone, email) and demonstrations of the system when necessary (at events, conference stands). This is a unique administrative role which requires analytical skills and the aptitude to interpret and explain complex procedures and rules from the ever-changing curriculum.

The Postgraduate Medical Education Administrator role also involves assisting in the running of the CPD approvals scheme. The approvals work requires liaison with educational event providers and a team of senior clinical assessors who review the applications for CPD approval. Polished and confident communication skills and an aptitude to form excellent working relationships across all levels are therefore essential.

The ideal Postgraduate Medical Education Administrator will use their highly developed organisational and administrative skills, to efficiently complete a variety of tasks ranging from file management to advising on specific curriculum queries, to delivery of training and demonstrations for the CPD and e-Portfolio systems.
