JTP is an award winning, international placemaking practice of architects and masterplanners with studios in London, Edinburgh and Hangzhou and with an established reputation for working effectively and meaningfully with local communities and stakeholders through well planned participatory co-design processes.

We are looking for a highly organised, pro-active Community Planner / Researcher to work with our Community Planning Assistant to coordinate our community planning activities and events across the UK and Europe and undertake research into local communities, the built environment and emerging trends and policy.

Our community planning team works with design teams across the practice to design and deliver engagement processes with local communities and stakeholders. These range from evening consultations, community planning weekends, week-long design charrettes and other collaborative events.

The role of the Community Planner is to be responsible for the organisation and smooth running of these activities from project set up to post event follow up. Duties vary from programming the event; sourcing and booking venues and resources; analysing demographics and community infrastructure; producing publicity and documentation e.g. newsletters, flyers, reports and broadsheets; update web news; developing contacts with local businesses, schools and community groups; and ensuring effective awareness, promotion and communication through appropriate media.

You will be directly responsible for conducting community outreach activities, overseeing youth involvement at events and facilitating the engagement of young people in the process. Experience of hands-on planning / Enquiry by Design / Charrette processes would be highly advantageous. Post event you will be responsible for producing communications, reports and presentation materials for publication in digital and print.

The ideal candidate will hold a relevant degree and have an appreciation of social change, urban regeneration and the built environment. A minimum of 5 years' experience in marketing, promotion or community facilitation is essential.

Candidates should have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe InDesign and excellent verbal and written communication skills. A willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to attend events is essential.
