Caretakers (X2) - Older Peoples Service
Salary: £20,604 per annum
1 x 38 hours per week (full time) and 1 x 22.8 hours per week (Part time)
Based at one or more schemes in the Older Peoples Service (OPS), Hackney, London
Job Reference:2019

The organization's Supported Housing Department provides a high quality intensive housing management service that supports our tenants to sustain their tenancies and increase their independence. We work with a number of registered housing providers, our principal landlord being Newlon Housing Trust, for whom we manage all their older peoples schemes in Hackney. Our tenants live independently in self-contained flats within the schemes and each scheme has a support office on-site.

An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a Caretaker to join the OPS team. You will need to be an enthusiastic, motivated and conscientious individual who is able to contribute to the delivery of efficient property maintenance services.

You will carry out a wide range of duties including;

* Basic maintenance and repairs to the flats and communal areas within the schemes, as directed by the Scheme Manager.
* Managing and planning your day to ensure you optimise your time on the varied tasks required.
* Carrying out regular health and safety checks and tests, eg fire panel and water testing.
* Carrying out documented property inspections where required, involving tenant participation.
* Ensuring grounds and parking areas are maintained appropriately, including sweeping leaves and debris.

The post holder will also be expected to cover when required for other schemes in the OPS, and also within the Housing team's central caretaker service.

The successful applicant will have at least one year's experience in a similar role and have the ability to carry out maintenance tasks safely and with practical ability. They will also have to possess a current clean driving licence, for when needing to cover, and have the ability to use their initiative to manage their daily workload. The successful applicant will have good communication skills, not only in meeting with our vulnerable tenants, but also being able to use basic IT. Most important is a can-do attitude towards completing basic maintenance and repairs requests. Because of the requirement to work alone with vulnerable adults, a full DBS check will need to be carried out before a final job offer can be made.

To apply, please click 'Apply' and ensure you include a valid email address as you will be sent an application pack for this vacancy.

The organization is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults at risk and expects all staff to share this commitment. If the post you apply for involves working with or having access to adults at risk and/or their records, we will require an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Services for successful candidates. This will be fully subsidised by us.

We are committed to equal opportunities and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
