Gainsborough Beds manufacture a luxury range of sofa beds and beds and are based in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

We are looking for an experienced Production Manager to oversee the manufacture and quality of our products.  With responsibility for approximately 50 employees, the successful applicant will also provide leadership and support to the production Team leaders through high levels of communication and daily production meetings in this business critical role.  They will be responsible for managing daily kpi's through the correct control of labour costs, quality and volume.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

Production

  • Manufacturing to specification in line with Bill Of Materials, Bill of Labour and Quality expectations
  • Safe use and maintenance of key plant, including Liaising with the Maintenance Department.
  • Monitoring work processes and performance
  • Maintaining a consistent presence on the shop floor
  • Controlling quality to minimise the risk of a substandard product
  • Measuring operational kpi's performance for the purpose of managing performance within teams
  • Liaising with product development including supply of skilled labour and feedback
  • Organise the production of fire blocks as required to meet test program
  • Segregation of all waste in line with needs of business
  • Attend weekly meeting with MD to discuss KPI performance
  • Produce Monthly Production report
  • To undertake other duties and projects according to business needs.

 

 

People Management

  • Manage and support the Team leaders to achieve desired business targets
  • Organise agency workers in line with production demands
  • Interview and appoint new production operators.
  • Conduct Return To Work interviews and identify any patterns in absence, taking further action if necessary
  • Proactively manage and reduce lost time through sickness and absenteeism
  • Controlling overtime and its management, together with authorising holidays and unpaid leave
  • Carry out Investigations around Human Resources or Health and Safety issues, as required
  • Supporting the Team leaders in maintaining productivity targets through effective people management within their own teams.
  • Be a point of escalation for disciplinary matters
  • Maintain and encourage personal development
  • Develop skills matrix for training purposes. Ensure available resource is adequately cross skilled and trained to meet demands of business.
  • Ensure a consistent approach across all areas is adopted regarding shift start and end times including monitoring of break abuse.
  • Maintain good standard of housekeeping amongst teams in line with CANDO ethos
  • Risks assess all workplace activities and carry out actions as necessary.
  • Support HR/HS&E matters around return to work, investigations, Disciplinary action/meetings, consultations etc as requested by the Operations Manager.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training:

  • Good standard of general education.
  • Will require a minimum NVQ Level 2 or ILM Level 2 qualification in Leadership & Managing people (or above).
  • Be prepared to undergo further formalised training as the company deems necessary.

Experience:

  • Must have proven experience of leading a team and motivating the team leaders to perform to required standard.

Knowledge:

  • Must have working knowledge of manufacturing and team working to achieve kpi's as stated.

Skills and competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong prioritisation skills and ability to manage own workload.
  • Ability to work flexibly and under pressure, to deadlines.
  • Team player who can motivate his/her team.
