About the role:
You will lead the strategic and technical direction of a team of systems administrators who provide general computer support, administration and maintenance of UNIX, Linux and OES workstations and Servers together with large quantities of storage and High Performance Computing Facilities. A key part of this role will be to develop and lead the strategic direction of services for NERC and University staff and postgraduates based at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS) to meet their scientific and administrative demands.
This is a permanent position offered on NERC terms and conditions.
Salary:
This is a Band 5 position and the starting salary will be GBP35,222 per annum. Depending upon skills and experience, a salary uplift and/or additional allowances may be available for exceptional candidates.
Hours of Work:
The hours of working are full time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
About you:
You will be an experienced IT professional with hands-on experience of helping to lead the strategic technical direction of complex and demanding organisations. You will be a team player and able to maintain a motivated team who work in a seamless way with colleagues across the Directorate. You will have practical experience of managing and coordinating IT projects; with a detailed understanding of project management methods and their application and a clear understanding of financial management and budgeting within a cost conscious and complex environment. You will need excellent organisational skills, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and adapting between proactive and reactive workloads. A key requirement will be the ability to form effective working relationships with staff of various levels of seniority and disciplines and build and maintain long term relationships across the wider organisation, stakeholders and suppliers.
