I am now working on behalf of a small engineering company based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire who due to company and product expansion, are now looking to recruit a Design Manager or Engineering Manager to drive design improvements. This position will be responsible for a small team of Design Engineers but you will need to have a strong, engineering background and some design experience.
Client Details
Based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire my client are a small engineering organisation, who design and produce their own, bespoke products in material handling. The company do have a production unit on site so experience with shop floor would be very beneficial. This position is down to company and product expansion, and will come will management responsibility.
Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager you will be responsible for managing the Design Engineering and Quality Departments to position the departments as a client-focused service, with emphasis on quality, innovation, throughput and empowerment of design and quality engineers to promote stable units.
Duties Include:
- Manage the Design Engineering Department, and position the department as a client-focused service, with focus on quality, innovation, throughput and empowerment of design engineers to promote a stable department.
- Sustain and develop quality systems and improve product quality within a CI environment.
- Work as a senior manager within the company, understanding business and sales requirements as well as engineering and QA specifics, communicating closely and effectively with other departments.
- Provide high level sales support when requested.
- Understand and implement control for product design: examples include safety, reliability testing, design reviews, quote reviews and risk assessments.
- Continuous assessment that the products meet CE and other safety regulations.
- Implement and promote use of management tools for the Design Engineering and Quality Departments.
- Control of engineering and QA budgets, monitoring and taking corrective actions where necessary.
- Contribute to marketing and product specifications for new products (CCM).
- Produce and achieve KPI targets / objectives for the design engineering team.
- Continuous improvement driven (products and process).
- Some travel is expected including international but not expected to be more than 10%.
