The Service has a large fleet of vehicles used to protect and support the community both operationally at incidents and whilst undertaking prevention activities. Vehicle Technicians undertake servicing, repairs and maintenance to ensure vehicles and some other operational equipment comply with legislation and best practice. This is integral to ensure our fleet remains ready for operational use 24/7/365.

You will be required to carry out installation, maintenance and diagnosis of vehicle electrics covering areas such as communications, alarm, charging, electromagnetic retarding, auto gearbox, ABS and ESP systems; hence in depth knowledge of CAN systems is essential.

Applicants must hold a current full driving licence (with no pending issues), have good communication skills and be able to work unsupervised. You should also be literate, numerate, and able to follow laid down procedures.

You must hold the City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Technician Part II, or equivalent qualification, with in depth experience in commercial vehicle maintenance and a sound understanding of the issues involved in maintaining and repairing Large Goods Vehicles.

For the permanent post there is a requirement to be ‘on call' for essential repairs, on a rota basis (currently 1 week in 4) for which a 7.5% allowance will be paid. Please indicate on the application form if you are applying for the permanent, fixed term or both positions.

We offer 24 days' holiday (plus public holidays) on joining, rising with length of service. Overtime is often available in addition to contracted hours. We provide access to an on-site gym facility, canteen and occupational sick pay scheme from your first day.

You are also eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme, which provides a guaranteed annual income during your retirement years. For both posts a tool allowance is payable at 1% annual salary (£231-£256 per year).

Completed application forms must be returned by midday on 9/3/17. Interviews are planned for 4/4/17.
