Key tasks and deliverables
The role will support the communications team with:
- Delivering communications to support he priorities of the local area, through various channels.
- working with colleagues in other areas and nationally to deliver national-once communications campaigns and projects.
- along with planning and delivering proactive communications work, work on ensure an effective responding effectively to reactive enquiries, such as media enquiries and responding to incidents.
- maintaining and enhance existing internal communications channels to meet area needs such as the weekly buzz digital newsletter. This role may be required to work as a duty communications officer as part of a standby/out of hours rota. Some local and national travel will be involved. The West Midlands Communications team provide the following services to their local area:
- Incident preparedness and response, including external liaison with partners
- Local communications planning and delivery to meet area priorities
- Local proactive and reactive media management (including social media)
- Internal communications support
- Advice around high public interest sites, flood risk and environmental improvement projects
- Communications skills capacity building (plain English, social media skills, etc.)
- Advice and support in relation to publishing, maintaining our brand and enhancing our visibility
Experience/skills required
We are seeking a Communications Officer to provide support to our local communications team in the West Midlands. This will suit a well organised individual who can evidence excellent written and verbal skills, a good working knowledge Microsoft Office, flexibility and an ability to work to tight deadlines. Previous communications experience and ability to use social media is desirable, but not essential.
- Essentialskills - Good verbal & writing skills , good Microsoft office skills and ability to be flexible and work to tight deadlines.
- Desirable skills - Some experience in a communications role e.g. experience with dealing with the media, social media, internal communications and campaigns.
