Testing Engineer
An opportunity for a resourceful engineer with a construction background to join a growing and varied testing laboratory.
As a Testing Engineer in our Construction laboratory, you will be responsible for planning, setting up and carrying out testing programmes on client-supplied samples. Many of our tests are non-standard and you will be called upon to design and build your own testing rigs. You will also write test reports to Company standards. Work is occasionally carried out at clients' sites.
The tests we carry out predict the performance of building materials, components and structures in a wide variety of simulated, real-world environments. We can measure properties such as strength, wind resistance, permeability, thermal insulation and resistance to weathering - vital considerations for our clients when developing and marketing their products.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate construction or engineering skills and hold a mechanical or construction engineering qualification at NVQ Level 3 or above, ideally gained as part of apprentice training. Hand-on design and build skills are an important requirement, as are accurate record-keeping and attention to detail. We also attach importance to the ability to communicate effectively and concisely in writing. We are especially interested in engineers who can express technical information so it is intelligible to the non-technical reader, while also answering the questions of fellow engineers.
